If you know anything about me, I am a HUGE fan of 2D artists. I think that beautiful pencil art is slowly losing the battle against digital art and I hold dear any artist that proves otherwise. Maybe that’s why the incredible art of Mike Henry AKA zatransis (@zatransis) of Big Menace Industries has me in awe and envy of his incredible talent. Hailing out of San Francisco, California, this professional 2D artist has worked in the video game, comic, and animation industry. His unique style of caricature-style art with beautiful use of vibrant and deep colors sets himself apart from the rest. The over-exaggerated facial features and embellished expressions oozes attitude and emotions from the drawing and gives it a life of it’s own. Everything from the Joker’s vicious grin, to Mr. Freeze’s cold stare, and the whimsical glimmer in Harley Quinn’s eyes are a testament to Mike Henry’s amazing attention to detail. While I have ranted over the years that Bruce Timm (@brucetimm) of ‘Batman and Superman Adventures’ fame is probably the best illustrator/animator to ever draw Batman, I would have to now say that Mike Henry has proven me wrong.

Gamespot recently did a Q&A with Rocksteady Studios’ game director, Sefton Hill regarding what we can expect in ‘Batman: Arkham City”. Hill reveals that unlike the first game, ‘Batman: Arkham Asylum’, Arkham City’s scale will be much larger. Location is key as Batman will get out of the Asylum to the mean streets of Arkham City where various missions and baddies awaits. Hill explains that Arkham City is close to five times larger than the Asylum. Considering that Batman: Arkham is a character driven game, Rocksteady is making efforts to improve and tweak the various flaws found in the first game such as a weak “detective vision” feature and some of it’s combat system. Unfortunately, Hill gives no clue or confirmation regarding the multiplayer option in Arkham City. With all that being said, what we can expect is a much better gaming experience from Batman: Arkham City. I’m looking forward to it! You can read the full article at GS.

Through out the Batman Reborn story arc (Batman R.I.P., Final Crisis, Battle for the Cowl, Batman and Robin, etc.), we have seen an array of different character try to take on the mantle of Batman after the presumed and soon debunked rumor of Bruce Wayne’s death to the hands of Darkseid. Of course, infamous characters such as Jason Todd (Robin/Red Hood/etc.) and Two-Face have donned their own variation of the caped crusader. Due to Bruce Wayne’s absence, some characters changed such as Stephanie Brown (Spoiler/Robin) be being handed the title of Batgirl from Cassandra Cain. At the conclusion of Battle for the Cowl, Bruce’s original protégé/sidekick, Dick Grayson (Nightwing) became the new Batman and Bruce’s son, Damien Wayne became the new Robin. It has been a while since we have seen so many bitchin’ costume and character designs in the Batman universe. Thanks to the brilliant minds of Grant Morrison, Tony Daniels, Carlos Pacheco, Frank Quitely, and others, Batman has been very exciting. It was only a matter of time before we were graced with a cool action figure line from Batman Reborn.

DC Direct will be releasing their first series of Batman Reborn action figures which will include 4 incredible figures. Series one includes Two-Face Batman, Batman Reborn version Azrael (with his flaming sword), the first Stephanie Brown Batgirl, and my favorite, the wicked Jason Todd Batman. Each figure is around 6.5 inches tall (Batgirl will be 5.75 inches tall) and will be available in July 2010. Shit that’s far away…
