Every toy company in the world seemed to have given up making decent action figures based on video games. Why? It might have something to do with companies putting their trust into Square Enix Products (the merchandise development division of SQEX) to make toys for them. Square Enix Products has made toys for not only ‘Final Fantasy’ and ‘Kingdom Hearts’, but also ‘Halo’, ‘Assassin’s Creed’, ‘Resident Evil’, and ‘Metal Gear Solid’. Well, SQEX continues its reign by giving attendees at New York Toy Fair 2011 a glimpse into SQEX’s ‘Street Fighter IV’ action figure line. On display was prototype figures of Ryu and Chun-Li. Based on the size, it is most likely a new addition into SQEX’s “Play Arts Kai” action figure line. Most likely these figures will feature many articulation points, stand around 8-10 inches and have an amazing sculpt/paint job. What even better is these figures go for less than 50 bucks. These definitely look amazing and detailed better than what has been already released in the market by other toy manufacturers. We will most likely see these in stores at the end of the year.

Street Fighter? Zombies? Can you say, HELL YEAH?! Who doesn’t love a zombie mash-up with characters that they have grown to love over the years. Like a lot of ya, Street Fighter was probably one of my all time favorite games and to see these face-bashing character in a new light (or dark) is brilliant. Illustrated by 27 year old, Manuel Augusto Dischinger Moura of Brazil, Manuel (also goes by ManuHell) created these deliciously foul creations. Everyone from Guile, Blanka, Ryu, Chun-Li, and ultra-violent baddie Akuma gets the zombie makeover. Manuhell’s ability to merge the two different worlds is amazing. These Street Zombie Fighters (sounds like a pretty awesome game) looks like they can whip your ass and eat your brains after wards. So pimp.

20091029dragonpunchtattoo

Some video gamers are so infatuated with a certain title that they will do crazy things to show it. In this case, a tattoo. The tattoo is of the combination for Ryu’s signature “shoryuken” (AKA “Dragon Punch”) in the popular fighting game, Street Fighter 4. The overall design and font type is quite cool, but one thing makes me scratch my head. As any Street Fighter fan (novice or expert) knows, the combination for shoryuken is: FORWARD > DOWN > DOWN FORWARD + Punch. However, based on the picture, the combination on the tattoo shows DOWN > FORWARD > DOWN FORWARD + Punch. I have to ask the question, “WTF were you thinking buddy?!!!” However, I shouldn’t jump to conclusions. From the picture, I’m going to have to conclude that this is on someone’s arm (based on the fact that it’s lying on top of a desk). If that is the case, what does the tattoo say if the arm was down vertically. The tattoo will show the combination correctly, but I would have to ask, why the punch icon is pointing downward. I can go on and on about the different point of views and combinations, but my overall judgment is this was a horrible screw up and an epic failure. Great job buddy.
