Let face it. We all have been waiting for Square Enix to release Final Fantasy XIII for 35434384 years now and every time we get so close to the release date that we can actually smell the scent of Lightning’s shampoo, Square Enix pulls the rug from under us and slams us with more news of delays and what not. Well, considering Final Fantasy XIII is NOW scheduled for Spring of 2010, we get some better news with Square Enix’s release of Final Fantasy XIII Play Arts ~Kai~ action figures. Releasing late February, Square Enix Products (the merchandise division of Square Enix) is planning to release 3 action figures and 1 vehicle. The first wave of FFXIII action figures will Lightning, Snow Villiers, and Oerba Dia Vanille (These names make me crave ice cream for some reason).

Square Enix’s Play Arts -Kai- figures are an improved version of their popular Play Arts action figure series. With a larger scale, a greater attention to detail, more articulation points, and additional parts, these are their finest action figure yet. Based on Final Fantasy XIII, the highly-anticipated role-playing game coming to the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 in Spring 2010, these figures of Lightning, Snow Villiers, and Oerba Dia Vanille feature detailed sculpts taken directly from Square Enix’s CGI designs. Window box packaging.

If you are a collector of Square Enix toys like I am, you already know that their action figures are one of the best THE BEST action figures on the market. SQEX’s attention to detail and craftsmenship is top notch and the quality of their products is unmatched in the market. Shit, not only do I have to wait for the game, now I have to wait for these figures. Thanks SQEX. BAH!

“Such a marvel is proof not only that the gods exist, but that they love, and that profoundly.”
-Explorer and Mapmaker, Orrick Ballard

Since E3 earlier this year, one of the most anticipated MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role playing game) games for 2010 is Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIV. At the recent Tokyo Game Show 2009, Square Enix gives us a glimpse into the world of Eorzea and its unique and exotic inhabitants. We get to see a little more of the different races of Eorzea including Elezen (advanced Elvaan), Lalafell (advanced Taru Taru), Hyur (advanced Hume), Roegadyn (advanced Galka), and Miqo’te (advanced Mithra). Square Enix has always been recognized for their elegant storytelling and outstanding music and it continues on even stronger in FFXIV. This is a game that I will DEFINITELY be playing once released. Hopefully I can weasel myself into either the open or closed beta testing. DIE CACTUAR! DIE!

During a video interview by Famitsu, Square Enix revealed some tasty details regarding the new game play for Square Enix’s upcoming new MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game), Final Fantasy XIV.

FFXIV producer, Hiromichi Tanaka revealed during the interview that FFXIV will feature a unique “no experience points, no leveling” system. Director Nobuaki Komoto said “”people who may never have tried an online game before have the freedom to try many different things and tackle any number of quests and grow naturally from their experiences… That’s our priority: players enjoying the process of character growth.”

Considering that Square Enix’s previous MMORPG, Final Fantasy XI was heavily criticized by gamers that the leveling was too grueling and the feat of finding “parties” to gain experience points was too time consuming, it seems that Square Enix has taken strides to fix those issues in FFXIV.

Contrary to what I wrote in the title, there is no Final Fantasy anime. However, we can dream right? Final Fantasy VII has been one of the most popular RPG video game ever in the history of console gaming and FFVII has sprouted many spin-offs games along with a CGI full feature (Advent Children) and a ton of merchandise (licensed and bootleg) to go along with it.
An unknown Square Enix fanatic took it a step further by producing his own Final Fantasy VII anime opening by doing some heavy alterations to the opening video for Tales of the Abyss. Check out the original and the fan-made sequence.

Square Enix is infamous for their product line based on their video game and Japanese animation titles… but Resident Evil 5?
Any gamer can tell you that the Resident Evil series is produced by Capcom, however, it is a bit of a confusion of what Square Enix would produce toys for a video game title that they don’t own.
