When I read a science publication, whether it’s printed or digital, and I see two of the most awesome and powerful words known to man placed together and used to describe an object, any object, I get all kinds of giddy with anticipation to see what sort of devastation such an object could unleash. Tourism futurologist Ian Yeoman, from Victoria University believes that in the year 2050, tourism to the “great outdoors” will be changed to the “great indoors”. Due to factors such as global warming, an older population, food, water and jet fuel supply problems and technological advances, people can find themselves vacationing at indoor resorts such as artificial indoor ski resorts than hitting outdoor attractions.

Yeonman, also believes that robots will change the face of guest services at these destination spots. Jobs such as housecleaning, waiters, bartenders, and more can be replaced by robots. Robots will be the new form of “cheap labor”.

Yeonman says: “Robotics will become important, because you’re going to have labour shortages in the future,” he said. “You’ll have some sort of interaction in terms of robots doing certain types of mundane activities.”

Yeonman also mentions that “robot prostitutes” can become a featured attraction in the future to draw tourists.
