robocopstatue

Wow… Wow… WOW! If you weren’t aware, last week someone suggested to the Mayor and the city of Detroit that they should build a statue of Robocop in their fair city. Well, after a public rejection by the mayor, Robocop fans and geeks united behind a campaign to raise $50,000 to have a metal statue made of Robocop. Well, due to a general donation by Pete Hottelet of Omni Consumer Products and over 1,700 people donating, the goal has been reached! On top of that, The Imagination Station has offered space to build the proposed seven foot statue. Sculptor, Casey V. Westbrook will be taking the lead in building the statue. A small scale model will be made and will be the scanned in 3D to create a large mold that will be used to construct the statue in iron. Whats really the kicker is the idea to build the Robocop statue was suggested via Twitter by someone that hasn’t even been to Detroit. Whats pretty amazing as well is that while charity organization have a difficult time raising money to fund their charity work, $50,000 can be raised in less than a week to build a Robocop statue. I guess it all has to do with what you really care about. Feeding the homeless or build a statue of Murphy. /shrug

Paul Bunyan. Zeus. The bearded lady. Incredible individuals that carved a piece of history for themselves all had beards. Croatian geek and illustrator Vanja Mrgan believes that some of the greatest characters of movies, comics, and video games should have beards. It is true. Bruce Wayne is always cleanly shaven and you have to wonder whether the caped crusader would look more intimidating and ruthless with a full grown beard under that cowl. Vanja does an incredible job of giving the gift of facial hair to the beardless heroes and villains of the geek universe!

Goodness! I LOVE fan made music videos. Especially when it has to do with retro video games. Mykola Dosenko (AKA Myk Dawg) of Kiev, Ukraine does just that with Kanye West’s song “Robocop”. Using graphic design/animation elements from retro games such as Mega Man and Punch Out, Myk Dawg created a brilliant music video that doesn’t really make much sense, yet has a nostalgic appeal that keeps you from not liking it. I still hate Kanye though. Hit the jump to see the video!
