One of the most best parts of Neill Blomkamp’s District 9  was the ultra cool weapons and mechs that the “Prawns” toted in the film. Well, if you are a huge fan of the film, Weta Collectibles will be your best friend. Following their very popular full scale replica of the Arc Generator rifle from District 9 (which is completely sold out and going for an insane amount of money on auction sites), Weta has created a bitchin’ full scale replica of the Gas Projector rifle. Limited to 200 piece world wide, the Gas Projector will feature a beautifully crafted paint and detail that is an EXACT replica from the movie. I guess you can’t doubt the authenticity of Weta’s replica weapons as Weta Workshop was the team that designed and created the weapons and machines in the movie as well.

The Nigerian crime lord of the District 9 ghetto, Obesandjo, has amassed a significant cache of prawn hardware through terror and pushing tinned cat food.

The Gas Projector is a powerful weapon. If only it could be fired by humans…

An EXACT replica of the guns used in Neill Blomkamp’s District 9, designed by Dr Grordbort’s designer Greg Broadmore and modelled on the actual props created by the artists and craftspeople at Weta Workshop.

This gun comes battle worn, alien gunk oozing out of its couplings and all the scratches and markings you’d expect from tough action in District 9 and by handling by Nigerian gun runners.

It’s made mainly from glass fibre, with some minor details made from other materials. It comes with a wall mounting bracket for display.

PLEASE NOTE: Unless your genetic makeup is part prawn, you cannot power up or fire this gun.

Weta Collectibles’ District 9 Gas Projector full scale replica will drop at the end of Summer and you can pick up one for a cool $499.99 (and it is well worth it so stop being cheap!)

What would you do if you were knee deep in baddies in a post-apocalyptic Washington D.C.?  Freakin’ shoot everything that moves of course! Your weapon of choice would have to be the military grade AER9 laser rifle, which is also the weapon used by “The Brotherhood of Steel” and the “Enclave” in Bethesda Game Studio’s epic action RPG, Fallout 3.

What?! You don’t have an AER9 laser rifle? Go make one then! Over a span of 30 hours, Master craftsmen and graphic artist, Harrison Krix of Volpin Props (located in Atlanta, Georgia) designed and fabricated a full scale replica of the AER9 laser rifle out of wood. WOOD I say!!! Even though it is not made of titanium like in the game, Harrison’s wooden replica is quite wicked to look at. Due to Harrison’s amazing attention to detail and “heavy weathering” painting technique, the finished product looks like the real thing.

I am quiet envious of Harrison as the best thing I ever made of wood was an pencil holder (which ended up being used as an ashtray) in woodshop class in middle school. My hat helmet off to you Mr. Krix for your amazing work! Hit the jump to see a closer in depth look to how it was made!
