20091116tauntauncostume01

Halloween has already passed and we are mid way through November, but I could not resist posting about this amazing costume designed and fabricated by Scott Holden. This Tauntaun (from Star Wars Episode IV Empire Strikes Back) costume was three years in the making, and it really paid off. Using a pair of custom built stilts as the legs, Scott created this monster Tauntaun out of PVC pipes, chicken wire, silicon, wood, plaster, foam, and a whole lot of different materials. The best part of this costume is definitely the head. The amazing detail he put into the face and the horns is quite impressive. Too bad the costume doesn’t have a slit in the stomach with guts to climb inside for added effect. Regardless, great job Scott!

It the jump to see the pictures and video of this amazing costume!

I love creative costumes, but I hate pet costumes. In this case, I will have to make an exception. I ran into this little gem on Geekologie. Dog and Star Wars lover, Robert (AKA flippycheese on YouTube) hand crafted a Imperial AT-AT Walker costume for his cute Miniature Pinscher.

I made this for my Mini-Pinscher for Halloween as he has about the same size and profile as an AT-AT. It is made out of picture backing board, hot glue, a sharpie, pillow stuffing, and my skin (I used a real scalpel to cut it out, plus the hot glue took a chunk of skin off as well).

It is quite adorable as Robert’s WOOF-AT-AT is probably the fastest heavy artillery unit in the Imperial Force. Now, only if someone can make some miniture A-Wing Fighter costumes for little hamsters and we can recreate the “Battle of Hoth“. Robert.. you and your dog are bad ass!

I wannttt…. Brrraaaiiiinnnnnsssss… and a hangover.

Halloween is upon us and most you are pretty busy getting your Halloween parties stacked with the right goodies for your guests. Why not play on the Halloween theme and serve your guests some gruesome brains shots. This slurpin’ delight is really simple to make that should prove to be a hit with your friends. Zombie are the shit right now (right behind vampires… stupid Twilight) and for those of you that can’t stomach the idea of eating real brains, why not just drink it. The shot is pretty simple as it is primarily vodka (I prefer Belvedere), but the tricky part is the key component which is the brain tissues floating in the shot. The “Brains Shot” was the creation of Dan Goss of Downtown Grill and Brewery located in Knoxville, Tennessee. Apparently, the foundation of the drink is vodka mixed with acidic lime juice. With the use of a small straw (preferably a thin straw), all you have to do is drop in a small amount of Bailey’s Irish Crème into the vodka/lime juice mixture. The Bailey’s Irish Crème when added curdles into cortical gyri-like substance that looks like a chunks of brain tissue. As an extra bonus, splash some grenadine into the shot to give off the effect of blood and there you have it!  I want to see tequila pull that shit off!

Hit the jump to see the recipe to creating “Brains Shots”. Good luck!

Mal is back bitch! (well kinda…)

I think my brain just imploded when I found this little picture at ToplessRobot. At first, I did a double-take thinking that I was looking at some old set photo from Serenity/Firefly until I looked into it a bit further. Apparently, CastleTV.net caught a glimpse of Nathan Fillion (who plays Richard Castle) donning a familiar “brown coat” while shooting an upcoming Halloween episode of Castle. Looks like Richard Castle will be dressing up as a Browncoat this Halloween. Considering that I have been a fan of Nathan Fillion ever since I saw him play Malcolm Reynolds on Serenity (I even loved Slither and Drive), I have been a great fan of Castle as well. To know that I can get the best of both worlds (Serenity and Castle) in one, make me appreciate Nathan Fillion that much more. Mr. Fillion, you are one bad ass mofo. Ms. Katic, I’m in love with you (I had to add that there. I couldn’t resist).

Castle airs on Mondays 10/9 central on ABC. You can follow Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic on Twitter.

20091012bayonetta

I know for a fact that a lot of gamers are waiting for Sega’s much hyped upcoming action/thriller video game, Bayonetta. With the current trend of video games, it is about time that we get a new femme-fatale video game heroine. Who doesn’t love a sexy gun toting witch?

With Halloween coming up in two weeks, it is pretty much expected that many female (and maybe couple doods) will be dressing up as Bayonetta. Unfortunately due to the fact that Bayonetta isn’t scheduled to come out until January 2010 (in North America) there isn’t much reference material online to make an authentic Bayonetta costume. Considering that a lot of hard core gamer/cosplayers really take pride in authenticity in their cosplay, Sega has formed the “Make-A-Witch Foundation”. Sega’s Make-A-Witch Foundation assists any aspiring Bayonetta cosplayers with tips on the different features and aspects of Bayonetta’s character such as outfit, accessories, weapons, and even attitude. Although the tips are not very detailed, there are great images and info on how to create the “total package”.

If anyone is attempting to cosplay Bayonetta, please send them to me. For research purposes… riiiigggghhhhtttt…
