I know you remember those awkward times in “Sex Education” classes back in the days. Some kids squirm in their chairs because they are uncomfortable with the subject and some giggle like little kids because the teacher said “boner”. Oh well, kids will be kids. On the other hand, what would sex ed be like if it was through the eyes of H.P. Lovecraft. I think laughing after hearing the word “boner” would be the last of your worries if you were thinking like H.P. Unfortunately, for us we will know what it feels like due to writer Clay McLeod Chapman and director Craig MacNeill’s short film, ‘Late Bloomer’.

Official selection at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival, Late Bloomer is a compelling and humorous short film about 7th grade sex ed class gone horribly wrong. Loosely based on the dark tales of H.P. Lovecraft.

You can help, but feel for this kid who cracks under the pressure. With parents, peer pressure, and puberty right in your face, it wouldn’t help to hear the teacher yap on and on about vaginas and penises, let alone being taught what they were used for. Especially in a H.P. Lovecraft state of mind. It’s a complete mind fuck. I hope you get some help kid.

Truly awesome. Jenny Burgesse (as known around the web as “geeksweets”) from Ontario, Canada is well known for her awesome geeky cupcake and cookies. Unlike many who just use a very “cookie-cutter” method to making a “geek treat”, Jenny’s design and execution on her baked treats are really remarkable. This is the case with her newest creations, a mean-green cookie she refers to as “The Mighty Cookthulu” or “Cutethulhu”. Any geek can tell that these cookies are based on H.P. Lovecrafts’ horror creation, the Cthulhu! I definitely think these cookies are quite cute. I love Cookthulu’s stubby like legs and beady little eyes. She crafted these monster cookies for the Game Summit Canada “ambassador meetings” which is being held in Ontario, Canada at the middle of this month. You can check out Jenny’s awesome creations at her site, geeksweets.net.

Etsy community member, MonstersDomesticated created a really cool chest set featuring the gruesome monsters of the H.P. Lovecraft universe. Dubbed the “Cthulhu Mythos Chess Set“, each of these hideous chess pieces are hand made and not produced from a mold. This is pretty cool considering not a single piece is identical to the other. The chess pieces are sculpted out of polymer clay, painted, than sealed in a polyurethane to ensure that, as MonstersDomesticated describes it “will outlast us all…”.

We consider the black pieces to be the Cthulhoid forces, with dread Cthulhu itself as king, and menacing Dagon as swift and malevolent queen, and the mouldering green pieces to be led by Yog-Sothoth as king, in all its gibbering madness, and primordial Ubbo-Sathla as queen. Of course, you’re the cultist, so you’re entitled to assign whatever mythos iconography you like. The interpretations, fortunately for all life in this dimension, are loose.

The bishops of each side are mad alien priests, the knights grotesque mounts with vile curved spines, the rooks writhe horribly within their blasted towers. The black pawns are sinister, writhing spawn of dread Cthulhu, and the green pawns mocking little tentacular skulls.

For a shit load of cash ($420 to be precise), you can buy this vile chess set on Etsy. I personally would love to just buy a Nyarlathotep chess piece.

Ever wonder what a Cthulhu may smell like? What about a Nyarlathotep? Now you can! Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab presents their “Lovecraft Collection”. BPAL has produced perfume oils that features scents inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s horrifically fictional creatures and worlds of the “Cthulhu Mythos”. The collection includes scents of such cosmic entities and places such as Al Azif, Azathoth, Brown Jenkins, R’Lyeh, Y’Ha-Ntheli, Nyarlathotep, and of course Cthulhu. There are 16 scents in the collection and they will cost about $15 bucks for a 5ml vile. Each perfume oil is bottled in an amber apothecary vial. I wonder if the scents attracts the ladies… or does it attract fish?
