Back in the days, I remember having to beg my parents to take me to a the local comic book store (which was 2 cities away) to get my hands on some cool Batman and Superman comics and goodies. Now with comics being more popular than ever, we will be seeing comic book merchandise in stores we never did before. Upscale department store, Bloomingdale will be teaming up with DC Comics to celebrate DC Comic’s 75th anniversary. Bloomingdale will be opening DC Comics specific shops that will feature exclusive apparel and merchandise that you can only find in these stores.

In a groundbreaking partnership, which brings the powerful world of DC Comics Super Heroes together with one of the nation’s most prominent retailers, Bloomingdale’s stores and Warner Bros. Consumer Products have joined forces to celebrate the upcoming 75th anniversary of DC Comics. This holiday season, Bloomingdale’s will debut brand-new shops featuring DC Comics-inspired clothing and accessories that are sure to be among the season’s most sought-after gifts. Designers contributing to the exclusive collection include Trunk, Junk Food, Converse, Psycho Bunny and JACK SPADE in men’s and Because We Were Bored in Young World.

Some of the types of products that can be found in the stores are t-shirts, accessories, bags, wallets and more. Prices can range from $30 for a pair of Psycho Bunny socks or $225 for a JACK SPADE tote. Now, I have to ask…. Are you fuckin’ serious?! $30 for a pair of socks!!! It is pretty obvious that the direction that DC Comics and Bloomingdales has set for their new joint venture is a sad (and pretty insulting) attempt to put their licenses and brands into up scale retail shops for high-end consumers. Unfortunately, this makes it more difficult for the regular comic fans to own some of these cool items as they wouldn’t be able to afford a $30 pair of Superman socks. I think I will continue taking my business to the local “mom and pop” comic book stores who always been supporting comics regardless whether comics were popular or not. Hit the jump to see some of these ridiculously priced goods.

Can you consider robots cute and adorable? If you expecting anything close to WALL-E and EVE, you are sadly mistaken.
Developed by the National Taiwan University of Science and Techonology, two robots named “Thomas” and “Janet” are featured rehearsing for the theatrical play, The Phantom of the Opera. Stomach turning awkwardness ensues. The freakish faces on these robots (especially Janet) makes it looks like Leatherface meets Johnny-Five.
I am all for development of science and technology to better mankind, but 2 lip locking robots doesn’t seem to do anything, but make me want to toss up the tacos I ate for lunch. I’m going to file this under fail and try to erase the image from my fragile mind. /yack

The Green Hornet finally found his Kato. First it was Stephen Chow (Shaolin Soccer) and then he left the project. Rumors had it that South Korean superstar, Kwon Sang-Woo was up for the role. Now Colombia Pictures has officially announced that Taiwanese singer/actor phenom, Jay Chou will play Kato which was originally played by the legendary Bruce Lee in the television show.

Heres the official press release from Colombia Pictures:

CULVER CITY, Calif., August 7, 2009 – After a worldwide search, Jay Chou, the multi-hyphenate singer-actor and a star throughout Asia, has joined the cast of Michel Gondry’s The Green Hornet in the iconic role of Kato, it was announced today by Doug Belgrad and Matt Tolmach, presidents of Columbia Pictures.

When questioned about his opportunity to play Kato, Chou said,“It’s an overwhelming experience to take on a role made famous by Bruce Lee. I won’t try to be Bruce Lee’s Kato – I will try to bring my own interpretation to the part. Of course, it’s a dream role, and I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

Hasbro is currently the biggest one of the biggest (I stand corrected, Mattel is #1) toy producer in the world (correct me if I’m wrong). They have produced action figures and collectibles for properties such as; Transformers, Star Wars, Marvel , G.I. Joe, and more. Hasbro even produces products such as Play-Doh, My Little Pony, Nerf, and Strawberry Shortcake. They even make Easy-Bake Ovens! (ummm… cake…)
