vampirebatman

Hell yeah! This shit looks so wicked! This is not your typical wussy “Twilight” sparkling vampire. This is BATMAN! Based on “Elseworld Batman” from the “Vampire Trilogy” comes a statue that may cause nightmares if left near your bed. Standing at over seven inches, this mad statue is based on the illustration of Kelley Jones who also did art for the “Vampire Trilogy” such as ‘Batman/Dracula: Red Rain’, ‘Batman: Bloodstorm’, and ‘Batman: Crimson Mist’. What’s really awesome about this piece is the way “Vampire Batman” is rising out of his grave. The tombstone reading “Bruce Wayne” is a nice touch. Sculpted by William Paquet, this statue is made of cold cast porcelain (which sadly breaks very easily) and will be limited edition. That means if you break yours, someone elses’ statue is going up in value. The statue will be available in October (great timing) for under $100!

I think I just wet my pants. Sideshow Collectibles is bustin’ out the big guns for the much anticipated sequel, Iron Man 2. Sideshow collaborated with Legacy effects to create a stunning Iron Man 2 Mark VI maquette.

With his identity as Iron Man exposed, Tony Stark now faces government pressure to share his armor technology with the military. Fearing that his powerful invention will be corrupted, Stark is unwilling to hand over the Iron Man technology. Stark must now forge new alliances and face powerful new enemies with Pepper Pots and James “Rhodey” Rhodes on his side.

If any of you are familiar with my loves, you will know that Hot Toys and Iron Man is way up top on my list of numerous obsessions. On that note, I couldn’t help, but freak out when master movie collectibles designer/producers, Hot Toys  announced earlier this year that they will be continuing their insanely pwn-some Iron Man Movie Masterpiece line well into the Iron Man 2 movie franchise. My mouth watered thinking about the possibilities. Everything from a 12 inch (1:6 scale) War Machine, Iron Man Mark IV, V, and VI Movie Masterpiece figure were dancing in my heard, only to be disappointed by the Hot Toy’s newest teaser image which featured… Whiplash.

20091113mgrex00

Couple days ago, we featured a really cool LEGO version of Metal Gear REX from the Metal Gear Solid video game series. Well, many of you seem to be a big fan of the mechanical beast and it is great news that a collectible statue will be available soon for you MSG fans.

Kojima Productions has teamed up with Three-A Toys to create a monster of a collectible. If you are not familiar of 3A Toys, 3A is the brain child of Kim Fung Wong, ThreeZero and the infamous Ashley Wood. They have been designing and producing high-end designer military and art figures for couple years now.

Originally spotted on 3A’s forum, the Metal Gear REX statue is estimated to be over one foot tall (based on the pictures). The height is only speculation as a lot of prototype toys are made larger than the actual production item. Like most 3A’s collectibles, it is most likely that MGRex will be made with PVC, ABS, and other light materials. It may cost you an arm and a leg as 3A collectible fanatics are estimating that the REX may cost around 400 dollars. Even at that price point, how can you not resist a Metal Gear REX statue graced by Ashley Wood and Hideo Kojima? I’m sold.

Hit the jump to see REX up close.

20091106akira

If you are an fan of Japanese animation (anime), then you may have heard of Akira. Originally released in 1988, Akira was an animated movie that has a huge cult following. Many anime fans and critics believe that Akira was ahead of its time when it came to animation technique and story telling. Originally, a graphic novel by Katsuhiro Otomo (who later co-wrote and directed the animated movie), Akira takes place in the future in a post-war city called Neo-Tokyo in the year 2019.

One of the most famous characters from Akira is Kaneda Shotaro, who was the main protagonist in the story. Kaneda was the leader of a biker gang called the Capsules and he rode one of the most beloved sci-fi vehicles of all time which was a futuristic heavily modified custom red motorcycle. Over the years, many toy designer/manufacturers such as McFarlane Toys have attempted to produce cool toys of Kaneda and his bike with very little success. No offense to the earlier released Akira toys, but the scale and designs of these toys did little justice for the brilliant designs by Katsuhiro Otomo. This is all about to change.

Newcomer high end collectible giants, Project BM! (a division of Bandai Japan) will be releasing a two new collectibles that will make you wet your pants. Project BM! will release a 12 inch Kaneda Shotaro figure and a ultra deluxe die-cast bike. The Kaneda figure is your basic 12 inch figure that we usually see from companies such as Medicom Toys and Hot Toys, but the real gem of is Kaneda’s bike. This beautiful vehicle comes equipped with LED lights and sound effects. Holy SHIT!

This die-cast metal vehicle replica is complete with LED light-up features, including front and back wheels, headlights, taillights, blinker, and dashboard, as well as sound effects, including engine start, rev, tires, drift and drive. The headlights can be adjusted to move up and down, and the front can be raised and lowered to simulate park and drive modes. The model has three power levels – off, lights only, and lights with sound, and has full, workable suspension created under cowling. (Requires 4 AAA batteries, not included.) The fully detailed Kaneda’s Bike Die-cast Model is the perfect companion to the Shotaro Kaneda 12-inch Figure, an outstanding pair for any collection.

Akira fans, new and old have been waiting over a decade for a collectible like this. Thanks for Project BM!, our wishes came true. So sick.

Hit the jump to check out close ups of Kaneda and his bitchin’ bike.

20091020macrossmotorcyclehelmet

For any old school anime fans, you will know and appreciate Macross (also known as Robotech in the States). For those of you that don’t know what Macross is, Macross is a long running series that has been airing on and off since 1982. Created by Shoji Kawamori, Macross’ popularity has stood against the test of time. Over the years, the Macross franchise features 9 television series/mini-series, 3 movies, and 2 graphic novel collections. The name “Macross” refers to advanced fighter mecha spacecrafts that were created from reverse engineered from an alien starcraft that crashed on an island. Mechas in Japanese animation is a very common thing like Gundams and Voltron, but Macross featured beautiful “variable fighters” that can transform the mecha in three forms. The three forms that these variable fighters are capable were fighter (fighter jet mode), gerwalk (part fighter jet/part human form), and humanoid (human form). The many different stories that were featured in the Macross series spotlighted the many pilots that flew these incredible machines.

One of the most popular characters from Macross was Rick Hunter (also known as Hikaru Ichigo/Ichijyo). His weapon of choice was his signature red and white VF-1 Valkyrie. Over the years, there has been an abundance of Macross related collectibles and toys and some of the best ever produced was from Japanese toy designer and manufacturer, Yamato. Until now, we have always seen various action figures in many different scales, but one thing that alludes us (the Macross fans) was a replica of the cool helmets that they pilots wore. Fortunately, thanks for Yamato, we get something to satisfy our craving for more Macross collectibles. Introducing, the Macross Motorcycle helmet! Designed to look like a replica of Hunter’s Skull Squadron type helmet, these bad ass helmets were not made to just sit on your shelf. These helmets were designed to be worn with the rider’s safety in mind.

Yamato is planning to release this helmet in the first quarter of 2010. Based on couple images that Yamato released of these helmets, it looks like this won’t be the first or the last Macross helmet they produce. Hit the jump to see a turnaround of this cool collectible!

Where to Buy: Big Bad Toy Store $459.99 (It’s expensive, but it looks soooo bad ass!)
