Can I just say that I went ape-shit (in a good way) when I saw this AMAZING ‘Game of Thrones’ cake?! Designed and made by Kensei Yonzon and Nicole Villar Balaoing, this mind blowing cake was designed to look like the iconic “Iron Throne” from the hit series, Game of Thrones. From the looks of it, a lot of TLC was given by these gifted cake artist. Everything from the swords made of fondant (or modeling chocolate) and stunning coloring, this cake is worthy of any King (except that little bitch Joffrey Baratheon…). It looks so awesome that you can’t help but think what it might be like to sit on it… Of course, you will only come to realize that it’s a cake when you’re scraping icing off your ass.

Ben. You are one lucky kid. Awesome dad, Mike Cooper of ElectricPig put together an pretty awesome interactive cake for his son’s sixth birthday. Instead of going to the local market and picking up a less than spectacular sheet cake, Mike took it upon himself to create an amazing ‘Angry Birds’ game cake for his kid. In the video, you can see the amount of time, effort, and chocolate cake it took to put together this elaborate cake. On top of that, Mike put together some edible “Angry Birds” ammunition made of (what looks to be) modeling chocolate. This cake is not just for looks. The cake comes with a working catapult that Ben uses to to shoot the birds at the sculpture. The cake took 10 hours to make, but took Ben only a couple minutes to demolish. It seems tragic for all that work to go to waste, but from the look on Ben’s face, I think it was well worth it for Dad. Did I mention that Ben is one lucky kid?

Good gawd I am jealous! When Star Wars artist Chris Trevas and his finacee Julie chose their wedding cake, they didn’t go for the classic 3 tier wedding cake covered in fondant and edible flowers. Instead, they called upon the services of master cake decorator, Courtney Clark of Cake Novueau (pictured above inbetween the Stormtroopers) to create them a one of a kind wedding cake that has been seen before. Courtney was requested to create a Star Wars Episode 5 The Empire Strikes Back dead tauntaun wedding cake, complete with a mini Luke Skywalker in Hoth gear tucked inside the stomach of the tauntaun. If Courtney seems familiar to you, it is because she was featured as contestants on Food Network’s Food Network Challenge and TLC’s Ultimate Cake-Off (which is nothing more than a sad rip-off of Food Network’s programing. Same goes with Cake Boss). I have seen many Star Wars cakes over the last few years and I would have to say this dead tauntaun wedding cakes is the most outrageous and bad ass cake I have ever seen. Great work Courtney and congrats to Chris and Julie!

Darth Vader looks “well done”…

Nothing makes me “geek out” more than geek themed cakes, especially when it comes to Star Wars themed sweets. That might be why I almost fell out of my chair when I came across this Darth Vader cake on flickr. Michelle and Vinny Garcia of Bleeding Heart Bakery (located in Chicago, Illinois) has a unique way of designing and baking cakes. Bleeding Heart Bakery’s cakes can be best described as a beautiful mixture of punk rock and whimsy. What’s also really cool about BHB is their passion to create cakes using only 100% organic ingredients. BHB is the first and only USDA certified organic bakery in the States. I’ve seen a ton of Darth Vader cakes, but this is the first cake I’ve seen where Vader’s helmet is off. It seems like molding and decorating Darth Vader’s helmet would be tough enough, but to recreate Anakin’s scorched and scarred head (that he suffered on planet Mustafar for doing a stupid back flip while fighting Obi-Wan) in cake form seems near impossible. Bleeding Heart Bakery did it and did it well. Geez, Anakin’s head looks crispy… kind of like bacon…

Check out Bleeding Heart Bakery at their official website or their flickr page. Also, you can follow BHB on Twitter at @bleeding_heart.
