As you may know, I am patiently waiting for May 7th when Iron Man 2 drops. There has been a lot of hub-bub about what’s in store in the sequel. The trailers have brought a lot of excitement and criticism as well. Most of the criticism from comic book fans has been toward Whiplash and how he looks in the movie however one thing has always been clear. Director, Jon Favreau never disappoints (for me anyways) and always has couple secrets up his sleeve. Iron Man 2 has already teased fans that there will be new suits and we have already got a 2-3 second glimpse of War Machine unleashing his arsenal in the teaser trailer. It has been hinted that Iron Man will feature up to Mark VI. Considering the last Iron Man suit shown in the first movie in it’s bout with Iron Monger was a Mark III, we are in for 3 new revisions. We already got glimpses of the Mark IV suit which seems to be a sleeker and cleaner version of the Mark III which still had exposed internal mechanics. Marvel Studios and Paramount has been pretty secretive about what the Mark VI will look like, but a leaked photo couples months ago showed an Iron Man with triangular chest Arc Reactor contrary to the circular one that we saw in Iron Man 1 and sequel teasers. With all this speculation going on, Comic Book Movie showed artist renditions of the new Iron Man and War Machine from the sequel. Of course, we cannot tell which version of the Iron Man this conceptual art is of, but I’m going to guess that it’s the Mark VI (and yes there is a lot of guessing and speculation going on). I am definitely happy that the designs are staying true to Adi Granov’s vision of Iron Man. I am even more happier that he doesn’t have metal nipples. DAMN YOU SSCCHHHUUUUMMMAACCCCHHHHEEEERRRRRRRR!!!

Hit the jump and feast your eyes on these lovelys.

Meet Frank. He has three heads and creepy as hell. He is the creation of artist Sarina Brewer. Sarina (of Custom Creature Studios) is an artist and naturalist that “recycles the natural into the unnatural”. A graduate of Minneapolis College of Art and Design, Sarina specializes in oil painting and altering objects she finds. Unfortunately, in this case, her “found objects” of choice is animal remains. Over the last decade, Sarina’s use of animal remains in her paintings and sculptures has lead to taxidermy. Don’t worry about where she gets her animal remains from. For her art, she hunts down roadkill and discarded livestock. She also gets donations by pet owners for animals that has passed away (kinda messed up in my opinion). Sarina never kills any animals for her art work. She is actually a huge animal lover and an avid supporter of animal conservation. She participates in animal rescues and rehabilitation.

She recycles animal remains and creates supernatural creatures such as vampire rats, chimeras, capricorns, chupacabras, griffons, unicorns, and more. My favorite has to be the flying monkeys. She also does other pieces such “pickled pets” and “cryptic curios”. If you like these insane works of art, you can also purchase them. They would make an awesome center piece for your Thanksgiving dinner with friends and family. Just to mistake the griffon for the actually turkey.

Hit the jump to see some of her great artwork.

You know all those plastic fork, spoons, knives, and sporks that we carelessly throw away after we scarf down our lunch? Well, apparently we were tossing away a valuable tool to create works of art. WTF you say? Let me introduce to you “Waste”.

“Waste” is a sculpture of a human skeleton that was designed and constructed using various plastic utensils. Five graphic design and photography graduates from Kingston University (Ashley Maine, Laura Bowman, Jamie Breach, Elliott Mariess and Lewis Woolner) created this plastic skeleton to showcase the ironic connection between our addictive fast-food culture and the problem of world hunger. Their haunting, yet thought provocative design received a commendation at the 2009 Digital and Analog Design (AKA D&DA) awards. Hit the jump to see a closer look at their work.

20091009belldandiestop

flatness is god.

I think is it is pretty common feature now on igeektrooper to spotlight the work of some very talented artists. This this around, it is my turn and I wanted to feature an artist I have been following for couple years now. Known as belldandies (aka. adi.s.) on DeviantArt, belldandies is a brilliant graphic arts who work features vector-style graphics with simple (but deep) color schemes. Unfortunately, even after hours and hours of searching, there is very information about who belldandies actually is. Other than the fact that he resides in San Francisco, the rest is pretty much a mystery.  Some of the most popular work he has done is based on comic and sci-fiction characters. He has given characters such as G.I. Joe’s Baroness, X-Men’s Jean Grey and Storm, and Dave Steven’s The Rocketeer the “belldandies” treatment. belldandies’ vector art style is beautifully elegant and haunting while his meticulous use of various levels of red and black gives the art a vibrant personality. If the world was flat, belldandies would be king.
