Wow… This is new… Apparently, Square Enix Products (the merchandise division of SQEX) is now making toys for anime and manga as well. It was pretty surprising that SQEX Products was gonna produce toys for other gaming companies like Capcom (Devil May Cry) and SEGA (Bayonetta), but I guess due to the huge success of SQEX’s figures, now Shueisha (the publisher of Jump Comics in Japan) has asked SQEX to make figures based on Tite Kubo’s Bleach manga/anime series. Right out of the gates, we are getting three figures off of Play Arts Kai~ action figure line, we are going to get Rukia Kuchiki (right), 10th division captain Tōshirō Hitsugaya, and Bankai form Ichigo Kurosaki! Holy shit these are going to be SOOOOO GAWD DAMN BAD ASSSSS!!! Many have tried to make Bleach figures in the past including Bandai Megahouse (who made brilliant PVC statues) and also Toynami (whos figures were a bit less articulate). Considering these bad ass shinigami (soul reapers) masters of the blade will be made in Play Art Kai~, we can guarantee three things. They are going to be huge, the articulation is going to be brilliant, and they are going to PWN!

Each of these will go for about $42 and will be available in stores in November! Hit the jump to check out more pix from the collection!

If you are not aware of what a “figma” action figure is, figma is a multi-articulate and customizable action figure created by figure designer/manufacturer Max Factory. figma usually features bishoujo-type characters and comes with an array of weapons, interchangeable faces, limbs, hands, and more. figma was Max Factory’s answer to the growing popularity of articulate figures in Japan. These little action figures have a huge fan base and many of these avid collectors design and customize their own figma-style action figures of their favorite characters. This time around one of these figma enthusiasts did an AMAZING custom job of the cute Yuffie Kisaragi from Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII. This unknown “customizer” took apart a factory produced Vocaloid Kagamine Rin figma action figure and retooled and sculpted his way to create this brilliant rendition of Yuffie. Considering how much I like Square Enix’s Yuffie Game Edition Play Arts action figure, I can’t help but LOVE the adorable nature of this customized figma. Whoever you are that made this, I salute you! (Once I find out who made this custom figma, I will update this post XD)

Hit the jump and get ready to drool, followed by tears cause ya can’t buy this sucker.

Kotobukiya has always been infamous for making PVC statues of Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Iron Man, Marvel, and random anime characters for many years now.  With the insurgence of action figures in Japan such as Kaiyodo’s Revoltech and Max Factory’s figma action figure lines, Kotobukiya (or Koto as we cool collectors call it) wants in on the action.

Koto has revealed a snazzy prototype of their first action figure which will be of the video game icon, Mega Man (or Rockman… which ever you prefer). Considering, I’m already sold based on what I see from these pictures, it is interesting to see whether or not Koto will be able to bring these action figures Stateside considering Capcom already has granted the action figure license to domestic figure producers, Jazwares. If Jazwares had their way, Koto’s Mega Man action figure will never make it to North America considering Koto’s Mega Man action figure makes Jazwares’ version look like shit. Regardless, I will be getting my hands on one once the official release is announced. It is looking like Kotobukiya is aiming for a September 2010 release. You will most likely be able to find it at figure retailers such as Big Bad Toy Store starting June/July.

Considering the love I’m showing for Koto on their new action figure line, can Koto hook a geektrooper up with a Cut Man and Ice Man action figure as well? Pretty puh-lleeaassseeee?!?!!?

[Update:] Just to please my obsession over this new Mega Man from Kotobukiya, it seems that this isn’t actually a standard action figure as originally speculated online. It turns out to be part of Koto’s “Plamo Kit”, which is generally a plastic model kit action figure. Moderate assembly, paint, and detail will be required by collectors. Mega Man Plamo Kit will be only a meager 1:10 scale (which is quite small and disappointing) and will hit the streets in September 2010. /shucks

Let face it. We all have been waiting for Square Enix to release Final Fantasy XIII for 35434384 years now and every time we get so close to the release date that we can actually smell the scent of Lightning’s shampoo, Square Enix pulls the rug from under us and slams us with more news of delays and what not. Well, considering Final Fantasy XIII is NOW scheduled for Spring of 2010, we get some better news with Square Enix’s release of Final Fantasy XIII Play Arts ~Kai~ action figures. Releasing late February, Square Enix Products (the merchandise division of Square Enix) is planning to release 3 action figures and 1 vehicle. The first wave of FFXIII action figures will Lightning, Snow Villiers, and Oerba Dia Vanille (These names make me crave ice cream for some reason).

Square Enix’s Play Arts -Kai- figures are an improved version of their popular Play Arts action figure series. With a larger scale, a greater attention to detail, more articulation points, and additional parts, these are their finest action figure yet. Based on Final Fantasy XIII, the highly-anticipated role-playing game coming to the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 in Spring 2010, these figures of Lightning, Snow Villiers, and Oerba Dia Vanille feature detailed sculpts taken directly from Square Enix’s CGI designs. Window box packaging.

If you are a collector of Square Enix toys like I am, you already know that their action figures are one of the best THE BEST action figures on the market. SQEX’s attention to detail and craftsmenship is top notch and the quality of their products is unmatched in the market. Shit, not only do I have to wait for the game, now I have to wait for these figures. Thanks SQEX. BAH!

20090905bioshock

Figure designer and producer, NECA’s newest addition to their extensive “Player Select” (action figures based on video game characters) line will be Big Daddy from everyone’s favorite steampunk first person shooter game, Bioshock!

BioShock was 2007 best reviewed game, and 2K Boston/2K Australia will be releasing the along awaited follow up, BioShock 2 in January 2009. Big Daddy is going to be one of the largest 7 inch action figure NECA will have ever produced. Don’t let the sheer size of the figure fool you as the figure will feature a ton of articulation points and removable armor features. No word on whether NECA will produce a Little Sister figure to accompany Big Daddy, but my itchy trigger finger is dying to blast both of them in the next game.
