starwarsicetray

This is such a simple idea yet I’m freaking out about it. Japanese figure designer/manufactuer, Kotobukiya is pretty well known around the world for their pretty awesome ‘Star Wars’ toys. Well, since last year, they have been getting into making stuff that isn’t statues or model kits such as the Star Wars lightsaber chopsticks from early last year. Well, I guess it was a huge hit because Kotobukiya will now make Star Wars silicon ice trays that will produce perfect mini ice sculptures of Han Solo in Carbonite and our favorite astrometric droid, R2-D2. Simple idea right? Well, than why hasn’t anyone made it before?! These ice trays are heat and cold resistant so you can be either on Mustafar or Hoth and you won’t need to worry about these getting damaged. It’s pretty cool considering you can fill and freeze almost anything you want. You can fill them with water to make ice for your glass of scotch or fill them with fruit punch to make mini popsicles for the little ones. You can put some melted chocolate into them and make a little Artoo chocolate that you can bite into. The possibilities are endless! Koto’s Star Wars ice trays will hit the streets in July (just in time for Summer) and will cost you less than 10 credits (when I say credits, I mean dollars) each!

I hope these are out by San Diego Comic Con. It would be pretty awesome to have for a party.

“Treat of the Week” will be my gift to you before the weekend. This week, we got ourselves a video of Justin Bieber getting put down in a hail of gunfire on this second guest appearance on the crime-procedural drama, ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigations’. Enjoy it friends. Enjoy it over and over again.

frakkingyou

Okay now. It seems like everything this week has something to do with videos. Break is well known for their hilarious parodies and their newest gift to the world is a parody of Enrique Iglesias’ song, “Tonight (I’m Fuckin’ You)”. Don’t look at me. Blame Enrique for that crude song title. Anyways, titled “Tonight, I’m Frakking You”, the music video is about a Star Wars Trekkie geek that find himself in a nightclub where he is pretty much trying to hump anything that moves and doesn’t have a wang. It’s pretty funny even though he’s wearing a mash-up cosplay of a Jedi Knight and a Vulcan (blasphemy…). Like a lot of hip-hop/R&B videos, Frakking You doesn’t disappoint. It has it’s fair share of cameos such as Alessandra Torressani, who played Zoe Graystone on ‘Caprica’, Richard Hatch from the original ‘Battlestar Galactica’, and Amy Okuda from ‘The Guild’ who ends up getting blasted in the mouth by the guy’s “web”. Yeah, its pretty crude. I’m sorry. The best part has to be Kunal Nayyar rapping in the video. Kunal, as you may know plays Raj Koothrappali on ‘The Big Bang Theory’. Even with the powers of the Jedi and Vulcan, the guy still fucks up at the end of the night and get no booty. Well, not the kind he was looking for anyway.

steampunkstarwars

mmmmm.. I love me some ‘Star Wars’ fan art. Its even better than Star Wars is mashed up with something as beautiful and elegant as “steampunk”. This amazing collection of steampunk Star Wars character illustration was created by UK based conceptual artist/illustrator, Bjorn Hurri. Unlike many artists who just adds some bells and whistles to an existing design, Bjorn really took it to another level by designing the character from scratch. The ability to reimagine these iconic characters and turn them on their heads yet have them still recognizable to the viewer is quite remarkable. Considering almost nothing about Bjorn’s steampunk Boba Fett is similar to that of Boba Fett from the movies, I still would be able recognize the infamous bounty hunter. My favorite of the collection has to be steampunk Princess Leia and Chewbacca. The only one that seems to look similar to the movie version is the Jawa Scavenger. On the other hand, Jawas are pretty steampunk’ed themselves.

Hit the jump and enjoy Bjorn’s Steampunk Star Wars collection.

curiousjoker

Yes… I would like to know. Why so curious? Designer and illustrator, Andy Hunt (@andyhunt) is up for vote at Threadless to have his newest design made into a shirt. His submission titled “Why So Curious?” is a pretty fucking funny mash-up of The Joker from ‘The Dark Knight’ and George the monkey from ‘Curious George’. The design is pretty adorable considering it is Curious George, but just looking into the bastard’s eyes, you can see that there some madness in that little monkey brain of his. You can vote for Andy’s design at the link below.

deadisland

This is probably the most chilling preview I have ever seen for a video game. We finally get to see the trailer for ‘Dead Island’ which is hyped to become the next zombie-genre heavy hitter in the video game world. Developed by Techland and published by Deep Silver, Dead Island is a mix of first person shooter and role playing game. Described as a “open-ended sand box” game, you are stuck on the island of New Guinea when the zombie apocalypse hits the small island. Drinking margaritas and tanning in the sun turns into smashing heads of the undead. The major difference of Dead Island to games like Valve’s ‘Left 4 Dead 2″ is Dead Island will mainly concentrate on melee weapons unlike L4D2 which was gun-heavy. The trailer is referred to “Rewound” in which the trailer story starts from the ending and goes back to the beginning. The beginning of the trailer starts with a chilling look at a little girl dead on the ground. As the trailer goes on, you find out how she became an undead. I do understand that its only a CGI animated trailer, but some of the visuals featured in the trailer like the girl being thrown through a window by her own father is pretty tough to watch. Its a bit of a tear jerker I suppose. The music that sets the tone in the trailer was beautiful and haunting and from what I understand, the score was created just for this trailer.

Even if you’re not a gamer or a fan of zombies, this trailer is definitely worth watching. It will help you find out if you have a soul or not.

steampunkchopper

This is something I can look at all day. Designed by Russian graphic designer, Mikhail Smolyanov of Solifague Design, this steampunk style chopper named “The Black Widow” will most likely not see the streets anytime soon, but Mikhail’s design is so amazing and realistic that many custom motorcycle sites has featured this chopper thinking it was real.  This beautifully designed low-riding chopper has all the bells and whistles that scream steampunk. What I really love is the bent back forks leading back to the handles and the single swing arm in the back. Considering that “steampunk” has become very popular in the world of illustration and cosplay, it is pretty awesome to see someone take that concept and run (or ride) with it. This stretched out chopper would look mean if you say it roaring down the street. Too bad its only a concept and will (most likely) be never made.
