Very cool! In case you have been living under a rock, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is a unique fan-fiction style adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice by author, Seth Grahame-Smith. Within the iconic story of romance, Seth Grahame-Smith infused a heavy dosage of undead goodness with a sprinkle of ninja kung-fu action. The book features ultra-violent scenes of zombie destruction which are accompanied by humorous illustrations. P&P&Z has been so popular that there is a graphic novel adaptation in the works. On top of that great news, P&P&Z’s Twitter, @PrideandZombies has announced that Deadline Productions will be producing a six episode mini-series based on the book. My mouth is salivating from the undead bashin’ goodness. HURRAH!

Black Wedding
Meet Juha Arvid Helminen. Helminen (AKA Immanuel on Deviant Art) is a Finnish costume designer/photographer that has a unique way of working with horror and beauty. Inspired by the works of artist works of H.R. Giger and the writings of Clive Barker, Juha’s collection of photographs called “The Shadow People” brings upon a definite alluring appeal to the senses while invoking a chill down your spine. The Shadow People seems to dive into the glamorous features of medieval European royalty and the drone-like nature of the Axis empire during World War II. Even with these historic references, Helminen takes these influences and blends them with a hint of horror that you may find in Silent Hill. Beauty is definitely in the eyes of the beholder as Helminen’s subjects in his photography are faceless and emotionless, yet they bring upon many mixed emotions to the viewer. Helminen’s artistic skills do not end with just the photographs as he is also the designer and crafter of the costumes in the photos as well. Helminen offers his photographs as posters for fans to purchase and uses the money to buy materials for his costumes in his photographs.
Considering how much I am a World War II history buff, these photographs invokes a very surreal emotion of romanticism within me. Look at “The Black Wedding” (above) and tell me if you see a Nazi-like monster with his faceless and equally creepy counterpart or do you see a young couple madly in love? Whatever you may think, I have become a loyal fan of Juha Arvid Helminen.
You can check out Juhna Arvid Helminen’s body of work at his Deviant Art page or on MySpace. Hit the jump to see a small sample of “The Shadow People”.

I love it, I love it, I LOVE IT! I love old school video games like Donkey Kong. I love Star Wars. Thanks to Threadless and Carlos Escarrega (AKA Yimbo), I might get the opportunity to enjoy both of those loves in one t-shirt. As usual, Threadless is asking its loyal fans about which illustration they wish to see on a shirt. Yimbos entry, “Return of the Bit” is a humorous mash up of the epic scene from Star Wars Return of the Jedi where Luke Skywalker and Han Solo is trying to save Princess Leia from the greasy grips of Jabba the Hutt with the iconic ladder and barrel tossin’ game of Donkey Kong. Yimbo illustrates a worm like Donkey Kong fashioned to look like Jabba with a less than sexy Leia in her slave outfit. Unfortunately, Leia looks like a guy with a pony tail rather than a hot princess in a bikini, but who cares! It’s a pretty funny shirt and I hope Yimbo gets the nod to have his great illustration graced on a shirt on Threadless.
You can vote for Yimbo’s “Return of the Bit” design at Threadless! Good luck Yimbo!

One of the things I love to collect is movie posters. Especially when it comes to the epic magnitude of the first Iron Man 2 poster. The net has been flooded in the past few months over what the new Iron Man and teased War Machine will look like. Everything from leaked photos of the action figures to conceptual drawings has been exposed to see the brilliant new armor designs. Now we get a first official look of the men in armor together in a beautiful movie poster. I’m going to speculate (there’s that word again…) that the Iron Man featured in this poster is the Mark V suit. The movie has been rumored to featured up to a Mark VI suit which makes me very excited. The Iron Man suit in the poster seems the same as the Mark III suit in the first movie, but a closer look shows small differences such as a new triangular chest plate around the arc reactor. Of course, there are images of a Iron Man suit with a triangular arc reactor so I will have to suspect that there are more armor-goodness surprises in store for us. Behind the “main man” is his grayscale counterpart, War Machine. He is a devious lookin’ fellow. Will there be a confrontation or even a battle between the man in red versus the man in black? I hope so. More “stuff blowin’ up” is ALWAYS a plus in my book. HURRAH!

Good gawd… I haven’t watched Smallville in a couple years now (since the whole Lana marries Lex fiasco), and I’m not sure I’m ready to jump into Smallville once again. Even with the introduction of Justice Society of America. As many of you know, Hawkman will be dropping into Kansas next year for a two episode story arc called “Absolute Justice”. The earlier glimpse into the costume shows that unlike the majority of Smallville’s renditions of the DC Universe heroes and villains, Smallville’s Hawkman will be staying pretty close to his comic counterpart. Apparently, more will be joining Hawkman in Kansas in the upcoming episode. Alongside Hawkman will be Dr. Fate and Stargirl. Based on the “first look” images from Splashpage, Dr. Fate and Stargirl are pretty close to what they look like in the comics. They also look like they belong on the Power Rangers. Will I be sacrificing a hour of my life to check out “Absolute Justice”? HELL YES I will. Not because I have hopes that it will be great or anything. I just like seeing people in rubber suits makin’ an ass out of themselves.
