Wow. This is so impressive, I don’t know what to say. Everyone is familiar with the weighted Companion Cube from Valve Corporation’s hit puzzle platform video game, ‘Portal’. Over the years, we have seen them recreated as papercraft, cakes, and more. However, I don’t think anyone has seen a Companion Cube case mod for a computer. Back in late 2009, “zAAm” decided to create a scaled down custom case mod to cleanly fit all the components for a working computer into a 25×25 Companion Cube. This is one hell of a feat considering everything but the actual computer hardware was made from scratch, including the LED lights. I find it mind blowing that he was able to work in the functions of the different components of the computer like the fan vents into the actual Companion Cube without distorting the look of the replica in any way shape or form. I’m not sure about you, but I would think this is just too pretty to actually use. Just the LED lights are cool enough, but to use it to look up porn? Thats a win in any person’s book. You can check here to find out how zAAm created his case mod!

Okay… so ‘The Hangover’ is not really related to geek, but for me, movies are part of my life and I consider that part of my “geek nature”. One of my favorite movies of 2009 was definitely The Hangover and I have been long anticipating the sequel. Now, after months of small teasers and images here and there, we finally get to see the first full length trailer for ‘The Hangover 2′
In the follow-up to the record-breaking hit comedy “The Hangover,” Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), Alan (Zach Galifianakis) and Doug (Justin Bartha) travel to exotic Thailand for Stu’s wedding. After the unforgettable bachelor party in Las Vegas, Stu is taking no chances and has opted for a safe, subdued pre-wedding brunch. However, things don’t always go as planned. What happens in Vegas may stay in Vegas, but what happens in Bangkok can’t even be imagined
Two of my favorite comedians are featured in this movie so I can’t help but love the movie. Ed Helms (The Office) and Ken Jeong (Community) are my soul mates and I would walk across hot coal just to see any of their new films. It brings me sheer joy to see that Ken Jeong will be returning to the sequel again as the hilarious Mr. Chow. I’ll try to keep posts like this to a minimum, but I just want to blog about what I love and I love The Hangover.

Holy smokes this is so wicked! Quantum Mechanix busted onto the collectible scene with their rad replicas and character goods. One of the things I love about QMx (thats what the cool kids call Quantum Mechanix) is their awesome variety of licensed merchandise they produce. They make stuff for awesome movies and television series such as ‘Star Trek’, ‘Doctor Who’, and ‘Firefly’. QMx next big release is the bad ass Mark II Viper from ‘Battlestar Galactica’!
Action Stations, Nuggets! The Vipers Are Launching!
Now you can join the fight against the Cylons with this frakkin’ awesome Viper Mark II Artisan Replica from QMx. Our 1:18 scale filming-quality miniature is being offered in three editions: Adama Edition, Starbuck Edition and Fleet Edition. The limit has been set for 500 replicas per edition. The QMx Viper Mark II Artisan Replica boasts a cockpit chock full of hand-cut details, including gauges, data screens, throttle, ejection seat, and seat belts with fabric belts and metalized buckles. But the pièce de résistance of the QMx Viper is the active, working DRADIS – a 9/16” OLED (organic light-emitting diode) video display of the remote sensing system in action, displaying the actual DRADIS video used in Battlestar Galactica. The canopy can be opened for an optimal view of the cockpit and this first-ever digital model effect. In addition, the ship’s three rear engines feature a pulsating lighting effect that is randomized using a white-noise generator. It takes our artisans about 50 hours to hand assemble the 140 parts that go into this spirited fighter, hand layering 18 different colors of paint, and adding special decals and hand-painted stencils.
There will be three different editions. The “Adama Edition” will be signed by Edward James Olmos, the “Starbuck Edition” will be signed by Katee Sackoff, and the “Fleet Edition” will allow you to customize your very own Viper with the call sign of your favorite Viper pilot like Commander Lee “Apollo” Adama. You can even make your own name and callsign for an extra fee. The only problem is that this monster collectible is $1499.95! Hot damn! Start saving your lunch money kids!

I kid you not! This is not an April Fools joke. ‘Star Trek’ legend, Leonard Nimoy (who played Spock… I wish I didn’t have to mention that…) will be joining the cast of Michael Bay’s ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’. Not as an actual actor in the film, but as the voice of Optimus Prime’s predecessor, Sentinel Prime. You may have seen Sentinel Prime during the TF3 trailer when the astronauts of Apollo 11 discovers his body in the wreckage of the ship. One fun fact about Nimoy is that this isn’t the first time he gets to be the voice of a Transformer. Leonard Nimoy was the voice of Galvatron in ‘The Transformers: The Movie’ animation back in 1986. Seems a long ways since than. I just hope Nimoy’s great voice and talent isn’t wasted on another terrible Bay movie. Oh, BTW… if you’re wondering what vehicle Sentinel Prime will be in the movie, he is going to be a fire engine.

Damn! Another really well made fan movie! Yesterday, we featured a fan film called “Silent Hill: The Confined” that was directed by Leo Kei Angelos. Well, he also did a fan film based on BioWare’s epic ‘Dragon Age’. Until Felicia Day’s ‘Dragon Age: Redemption‘ actually releases, we get to satisfy our Dragon Age fix is ‘Dragon Age: Malevolence’ and from what I see, I like Malevolence A LOT.
I love Dragon Age so much, I wanted to join in on the fun of Felicia Day’s live action webseries, to show my love for Bioware and the universe they created. So… I made my own Dragon Age fan film on just about zero dollars budget. This is an original story I wrote that would fit in with the themes of the Dragon Age world. To do something epic like Dragon Age justice without a lot of money is challenging, to say the least… But the whole cast & crew utilized all our resources really well and worked our butts off to try and make it happen. I expect to finish working on the short film and release it in a few months. To clarify, I’m not trying to compete with Felicia Day or infringe upon Bioware material in any way. I’m just a really, really passionate fan of the game and wanted to show my support of the franchise.
I feel like someone has been watching a lot of ‘Spartacus: Blood and Sand’. The great mix of an epic score, blood, and violence screams Dragon Age. I find this to be pretty amazing considering Leo and his crew are making due with what day have and hoping to be able to finish a fifteen minute short film with zero budget. Hopefully, they will succeed and we’ll get to see something amazing in a few months. Keep up the great work Leo!

Mid-February, it was announced that FX has given the green light for a series based on Michael Avon Oeming (artist) and Brian Michael Bendis’ (writer) awesome comic, ‘Powers’. The fans were raving over the possibility of Powers coming to the small screen and there were many who would love Katee Sackoff to play Christian Walker’s partner, Deena Pilgrim. For those of you not familiar with the awesomeness of Powers, heres a small synopsis:
Powers is set in a world where superpowers are relatively common but not mundane. It follows the lives of two detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, police officers in a homicide department devoted to cases that involve “powers” (people with superpowers). Walker himself used to be a costumed superhero named Diamond, but became a police officer after he lost his abilities. Though stripped of his powers, he still retains his contacts within the superhero community, even becoming engaged to an ex-colleague, who is later killed. In later issues, Walker is offered the chance to become the world’s latest secret Guardian as part of The Millennium Guard, a secret group of intergalactic guardians, accepting the responsibility and the powers that come with it.
Well, now it is getting more exciting as ‘Friday Night Lights’ and ‘Super 8′ actor, Kyle Chander is reported to have meet with FX brass and has gone over the script for the role of Christian Walker. If would be pretty awesome to see an actor of Chander’s caliber to grace the screen as Christian Walker. Especially if FX can land an actress of the same level to play Deena Pilgrim. Whats even better news is that Charles Eglee has been brought in to write the script who was worked on ‘Dexter’ and ‘The Walking Dead’. FX is hoping to start production on the pilot late May/early June. Hopefully it will receive positive reviews and we can maybe see a full series at the end of the year or early 2012.

If you are like me and millions of others, you cannot wait for the premiere of the new season of ‘Doctor Who’. Over the last couple weeks, BBC release two feature to keep our mouth watering. First the Comic Relief special and than the ultra creepy prequel short to the season six premiere episode, “The Impossible Astronaut“. Well, now BBC has finally released the firs full trailer for the new season. What really surprised me is the lack of iconic baddies like “Weeping Angels”, DALEKs, and Cybermen. Instead, we get more supernatural creeps such as aliens, spectres, minotaurs (I think thats what I saw), sad clowns and the dressed puppet. I’m very excited as well about the Doctor making his way to the United States for couple story arcs. I think the best part of this trailer has to be where the mysterious voices says “Fear me, I have killed hundreds of Time Lords…” and the Doctor answers with “Fear me. I killed all of them.”. Now thats pretty hardcore. I’m also dying to see more of Amy Pond.
“The Impossible Astronaut” premieres April 23rd 2011. Hit the jump and check out the trailer for season six of ‘Doctor Who’!
