littlemermaid

If anyone knows anything about me, I am a die-hard fan of Disney and Disney theme parks. So once in a while, I would feature some cool news regarding a new movie or ride in development. This is the case with “The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure” ride at Disney California Adventures park. Disney has been doing everything they can to bring more business to California Adventures such as “Disney World of Color” and “ElecTRONica”. It has been well known that California Adventures has been a huge mess since it’s opening and has not been a fan favorite for Disney theme park enthusiasts. So now, the part is in construction to bring more visitors such as a new Pixar themed land and also the Little Mermaid ride. There isn’t that much news regarding what the ride is going to be like, but I can presume that its going to be like the Little Nemo submarine ride which takes place underwater. Now, the Disney Blog gives us a glimpse at Walt Disney Imagineers working on animatronics for Ariel and the challenges they faced with her hair.

“The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure” opens on June 3rd, the same day as the new “Star Tours”. Hit the jump and check out a small video sneak peek of the Disney Imagineers at work.

aurors

There has been a lot of April Fool’s jokes on the web this year, but IGN’s had to be the best. IGN created an awesome one minute trailer for a fictional ‘Harry Potter’ inspired television series called ‘The Aurors’. The Aurors, as you may know is an elite unit of law enforcement agents within the Ministry of Magic trained to capture Dark wizards. Characters such as Nymphadora Tonks and Alastor Moody are/were part of the Aurors. Well, now that the Harry Potter movies are coming to an end with ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2′, it was pretty devious of IGN to prey on the fan’s need for more Harry Potter. Even I wanted to believe and did for a second. Unfortunately, after further research, I found the trailer to be a dirty April Fool’s joke and I pretty much spiraled into a deep depression. Regardless, I think IGN did a pretty awesome job with the trailer and considering the timing, they made the biggest splash on April Fool’s Day. I think Warner Bros. really need to look into this. IGN might have something here.

ironmansuitcase

I’m having a difficult time deciding whether I really like this cosplay or not. Created by Ryan Brooks (AKA TheRealTonyStark), Brooks spent over 1200 man-hours to recreate the infamous “Mark V” briefcase armor from ‘Iron Man 2′. The cosplay consists of 384 individual pieces of armor which included over 4000 Lego Technix pieces. Crazy! The cosplay (with the help of friends) folds neatly (kinda…) into a briefcase-like package and folds out so that Brooks can set in and lift the armor over his body. I do admit the suit doesn’t look like a briefcase much when you see it folded up and the suit is a bid odd when Brooks is wearing it (the helmet seems REALLY huge), but I can’t help but be in awe of Brook’s creation. Regardless whether it looks clean or not, you have to applaud his dedication to get this made. You can see more info on how Ryan created his suit at his Cosplay.com page.

xmenanimeopening

A few days ago, the new ‘X-Men’ anime released over in Japan. A lot of us (including myself) have been patiently waiting for the new anime to release and now that it has, I have to say that I am in awe of the quality of animation of the new series. Considering the animation will be done by MADHOUSE (the team behind ‘Trigun’) and Warren Ellis and Jeph Loeb will be advising, the show will definitely be something special. I’m not going to put out any spoilers on whats to come because that would just be a dick move, but what I can do is show you the opening credit sequence for the new anime series. It is much different and cannot be compared to the opening of the old school X-Men animated series on Fox a long time a go, but I seeing the mutants in action makes my mouth water. It’s THAT freakin’ good. The song isn’t as great as the original though…

attacktheblock

Inner City vs. Outer Space

Up until yesterday, I had no clue what ‘Attack the Block’ was. I’m glad I do now. It seems that many movie reviewers and entertainment bloggers are raving over writer/director Joe Cornish’s (Cornish is the writer behind Steven Spielberg’s ‘The Adventures of TinTin: The Secret of the Unicorn’ and currently working on the screenplay for director Edgar Wright’s ‘Ant-Man’)  new movie. Attack the Block follows a group of teenage mischievous gangsters out of South London who find themselves defending their “block” from an alien invasion. Staring Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead, Paul), the movie seems like a good mix of comedy and senseless action. The language is colorful and amusing . I wouldn’t expect anything less from a project involving Frost. Currently, Attack the Block is set to open in theatres in Europe on May 11th and there is no official word on whether it will release stateside. Hopefully, a domestic distributor will pick it up for our enjoyment as well.

gameofthrone

One of the shows that I’m looking forward to this month has to be HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’. Game of Thrones is an epic fantasy series based on the books of ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ by American author George R.R. Martin. HBO has adapted the books into a ten episode (for the rookie season) series that will start airing on April 17th, 2011. The series stars the amazing Sean Bean as Eddard “Ned” Stark who is also known as the “Lord of Winterfell”. HBO apparently is aware of the current craze for Game of Thrones as geeks like myself cannot wait for the season to start in two weeks. HBO was gracious enough to release the first fifteen minute of the first episode for our viewing pleasure. This will keep us satisfied for another two weeks before the full episode airs. I’m not sure about you, but I have to say that the cinematography of the series looks amazing and the production level of the television series seems as big or bigger than a movie. This looks to be a sure win for HBO. I can’t wait for the 17th!
