I woke up extra early today to make sure I was awake when the first trailer for ‘The Avengers’ dropped this morning and I don’t regret it at all! All we’ve been able to see so far were couple shitty set spy photos and a tasty teaser at the end of ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’, but now, we have a clearer picture of what we can expect from The Avengers and I have to say that I’m fucking excited! The mix of characters and personalities in The Avengers is going to be dynamic and you can already see that between Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark and Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers. Just from what I see from the trailer, it looks like Loki will be off the rails and will be a great villain for the newly assembled team. Also, from the looks of it, RDJ is the front man and will steal the show (but did you expect otherwise). While we would have loved to see more scenes showcasing heroes interacting with other heroes, we will just have to be patient and wait till May when the film comes out. Until then, just check out the trailer and make sure you have an extra set of underwear on hand.

May the Force be with you to fight cancer!
This is brilliant! In celebration of the Blu-ray release of ‘Star Wars’, “Stand Up to Cancer” AKA SU2C (@su2c) is teaming up with ‘Star Wars’ and releasing three amazing Star Wars inspired tees to help raise awareness and funds to help further cancer research. These tees feature awesome artwork while sending the message of “using the Force for good”. My favorite has to be the stormtrooper with the message, “Blast Cancer”! These tees will be available at SU2C’s web shop till the end of the year at 25 bucks a tee and the proceed will go towards the cause. Celebrity Star Wars fans such as Emma Stone (Amazing Spider-Man, The Help), Ken Jeong (Community, Hangover), and Bill Hader (Saturday Night Live) are also getting in on the cause by filming promotional video for SU2C wearing the tees and recreating iconic scenes from the movies. I seriously cannot wait to see what Ken Jeong and Bill Hader comes up with! Also, Star Wars and SU2C is teaming up with eBay to auction off movie memorabilia during September 16-23rd, 2011 to raise funds for the cause as well. It’s beautiful when Star Wars can help out a great cause like Stand Up to Cancer. Star Wars is the best!
Now, go and buy a shirt or two… or three. GO NOW.

Imagine ordering a plate of your favorite sushi and having it arrive with a Imperial Scout Trooper and speeder bike sculpture made of carrots and radishes? If I was you, I would lose my shit over how bad ass it is! Well, this is the case with Okitsugu Kado, a 39 year old sushi chef from Osaka, Japan who has a love for ‘Star Wars’ that is unmatched in the world of sushi.
‘In most cases I place vegetable sculptures on a dish for customers with their food, although with some of the bigger ones occasionally I will only put on display. I’m a huge Star Wars fan and a member of a Japanese fan group called Jedi Order. For my carvings I use everything from carrots, white radish, sweet potato, Kyo-potato, radish, even pumpkin and more. I’ve been carving vegetables for almost 15 years and have made more than 40 sculptures. Before that I trained in ice carving. Sometimes I need over ten hours to finish just one sculpture but it doesn’t matter to me because during carving I forget the time… I just want to see people smile – that is why I carve.’
Kado can be found using the “Force” at Minayoshi Sushi Bistro in Japan.

Do you dream about the Dark Side? I do. I dream about it all the time. That is probably the only time I can get a good night rest. While my dream includes punching Ewoks in the face and using the Death Star to blow up Endor, photographer Marie-Louise Cadosch has a different dream in mind. In this photograph collection titled “Dream of the Dark Side”, the photos follows the dream of a girl (modeled by Maura Waller) who happens to be a flesh-colored Twi’leek (which is freakin’ me out a bit) flirting with Darth Vader. Unfortunately, Vader is not amused and one confused Stormtrooper finds out what happens to people that try to seduce the Sith Lord. Twi’leeks dont get much of a break in the Star Wars universe do they?

GREAT SCOTT! I usually save my posts for the mornings, but I couldn’t resist after coming upon some awesome ‘Back to the Future’ news. Earlier today, Frank Marshall (@ledoctor) (the executive producer behind Back the Future) tweeted:
“Something big is coming soon. Can’t say anything yet. No one should know too much about their own destiny. #BTTF”
Of course, a lot of people thought it was going to be announcement regarding a reboot to ‘Back to the Future’, but we knew it was highly unlikely it was going to happen. Later in the evening, we still got some exciting news in form of a teaser video on Youtube by “DocEmmettBrown88″. Titled, “McFly’s Closet”, the video shows an impressive room filled with rows and rows of the iconic Nike sneakers from ‘Back to the Future II’ that Marty McFly wears. If you weren’t aware, last year Nike announced that they patented the concept and plans for a self-lacing shoe using technology that uses an automatic ankle cinching system. Well, I guess it worked out as Nike has announced a super-secret event taking place in Los Angeles tomorrow (September 8th) hosted by world-renowed Nike shoe designer Tinker Hatfield. The select few (not me….) that is invited to the event was given a gift teasing the event. The gift was a pair of Doc Brown’s iconic shield glasses from the film in a black box with the Nike emblem embossed on top. On the sides of the shades reads the inscription, “It’s About Time“. From what we can assume from all the teasers here and there is that Nike is planning on revealing Marty McFly’s 2015 Nike MAG sneakers at the event. This is pretty amazing considering we are going to get them three to four years before the actual release date (FYI: It was 2015 in the film…). We won’t know the exact details until the event is over, but as a die-hard fan, I can only presume that Nike is planning on releasing these shoes (most likely in a limited edition run). All I can say is, “Do you have these in size 13 and please charge it on my credit card”. I’ll post more details once more info is available!
UPDATE: It has been announced that 1500 pairs of shoes will be auctioned on eBay with all net profits going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation. Click for more info

I don’t know whether I should be happy as hell or scared shit-less after checking out artist/sculptor, Ray Lin’s (@artanisone) mind blowing collection of realistic sculptures based on the popular characters of ‘Futurama’. Ray threw out the signature animated style from the series that we’ve come to love and reimagined the crew of Planet Express with a twist of realism. One of the best pieces from the collection has to be Professor Farnsworth. Maybe it’s the glasses or his facial expressions that makes him seem as looney and insane as he does in the series. I would have to say that Leela kind of scares the crap out of me and Dr. Zoidberg looks like a real bad ass. Ray is continuing his awesome collection of work with Zap Brannigan, Kif Kroker and more which are all works in progress. I am definitely lookin’ forward to seeing those and Bender! Continue the great work Ray!

This is a real treat. If you are old enough, you just might have fond memories about ‘Jonny Quest’ from the mid-sixties. Well, I’m wasn’t born then, but I do remember watching a lot of reruns during my childhood and loving all the wacky adventures that Jonny Quest and company goes on every episode. Jonny Quest is definitely considered a classic, but not much love has been given by current youth and by Hollywood. Well, maybe animator, Roger D. Evans just might be the person to put Jonny Quest back on the map with this amazing remake of the classic opening scene with theme song using stop-motion and CGI animation. Whats ever more amazing about the whole thing is that Roger created these awesome figures himself!
In 1964, Jonny Quest aired to rave reviews as the first, adult action/adventure cartoon in prime time. It had cool jazz music by Hoyt Curtin and terrific, high contrast pen and ink design work by Doug Wildey. As an animator and long time JQ junkie, I had always wanted a set of Jonny Quest action figures but, due to high production costs, the show only lasted one season; not long enough to spawn any kind of serious toys or other merchandising tie-ins. So, almost 50 years later, I made my own. Here is my Valentine to one of the coolest, if not THE coolest, cartoons ever to spin up the imagination of a 53 year old man now going on six. Enjoy!
That theme song really takes me back! As long as their are hard-core fans like Roger in the world, classic series like Jonny Quest will never die (even though it was short-lived). Great work Roger!
