Please excuse me as I am trying to stop laughing after watching this gut bustin’ video by Teal Sherer (@TealSherer) and Sean Becker (@SeanBecker). You may have heard already about DC rebooting their whole universe and starting back at square one. Well, one of the biggest controversy is that Barbara Gordon AKA Oracle will be not bound to the wheel chair anymore and will return to become Batgirl once again. I guess Barbara Gordon feels the same about the reboot as the diehard fans do (BTW, Teal as Barbara Gordon is magical!).

mmmmm… I hate MTV’s Video Music Awards, BUT I did sit through as much as possible to catch the first teaser for ‘The Hunger Games’. Directed by Gary Ross (Pleasantville/Seabiscuit), ‘The Hunger Games’ is based on the popular “Hunger Games Trilogy” by Suzanne Collins.
In a not-too-distant future, North America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcast throughout Panem. As the 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss’ young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district’s female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart Peeta, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives.
After feverishly waiting for the teaser, I have to say that I like what I see after actually seeing Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) in action. Like most teasers, it’s short and basically a cock tease, but I can sleep easier knowing that ‘The Hunger Games’ is going to be pretty bad ass. ‘The Hunger Games’ opens March 23, 2012.

Hearts dropped when it was announced that Fox has decided not to pick up the series, ‘Locke & Key’. Based on the comic series written by Joe Hill and illustrated by Gabriel Rodriguez, there was much hype behind the project by both the studio and loyal fans of the comic. After Fox dropped the series and after months of shopping the project to other networks, it has become obvious that the series was dead before it even got started. During SDCC 2011, fans were treated to a special screening of the pilot episode (even though the series was already dropped months before). Well, thanks to a leak on the web, we get to see the trailer for ‘Locke & Key’. From what I see, the series looks amazing and the production value is top notch. Too bad we only get a small taste of what could have been and will have to wait to see if any brave soul will be willing to pick up the project. Maybe a full length feature? I hope.

It’s truly tragic when beautiful comic art never gets the treatment it deserves. In this case, print. Currently, artists Amy Reeder and J.H. William III are sharing the load on doing the interior pages for ‘Batwoman’. While each artist will take turn drawing each issue, the other will provide a variant cover. Variant covers are some of my favorite to collect and it is great incentive for comic collectors and retailers to sell more. Sadly, Amy Reeder has announced that DC Comics has decided to scrap the variant cover idea.
So, I’d done four of the five variants, when I had found out that DC decided not to publish any variant covers on Batwoman.
I have told many fans to keep an eye out for these variants and I apologize for getting your hopes up! No word yet on whether they will ever see print. I’ve tried to ask about printing them on the interior of their respective Batwoman issues, but haven’t heard anything yet.
No definitive word, either, on whether they will let me do covers for my arc. Or give me another cover gig. For now I’m still working on Batwoman interiors, and that’ll start February of next year.
Unfortunately, these amazing variant covers were penciled, inked, and colored by Amy Reed and they will never see the shelves of a comic book store. Until we get an update from DC Comics and Amy Reeder on the fate of these brilliant cover art, we can only enjoy them online.

I rarely need to pick up my jaw off the floor, but I couldn’t help it after watching ‘Portal: No Escape’. Directed by Dan Trachtenberg (@dannyTRS), ‘Portal: No Escape’ stars Danielle Rayne (@DanielleRayne) as the lead in a short based on the popular video game, ‘Portal’ by Valve. Dan premiered his short fan-made film at this year’s San Diego Comic Con which was received with a standing ovation! One of the best parts of ‘Portal: No Escape’ has to be the great balance of sci-fi and realism. Films based on video games has never really been popular in Hollywood or the general movie-goer, but after watching ‘Portal: No Escape’, I feel like there is some hope. Now, we just need Hollywood to give Dan the director’s job and a proper budget to created a full-length Portal feature!

I don’t think anyone will ever know how much I freaked out after seeing these beauties! Amazing illustrator, Jenny Parks put together this awesome collection titled “Doctor Mew” of eleven cats dressed up as the eleven different variations of the Doctor from ‘Doctor Who’. Out of the collection, my favorite has to be the dapper Eleventh Doctor New. There is something very charming and chic about a cat with a bow tie and fez. Jenny has these amazing “Doctor Mew” illustrations available as prints and apparel at her web store!

OK Go is infamous for their unique and clever music videos so I guess you wouldn’t expect anything less for OK Go’s music video for “The Muppet Show” theme song! Joining the band in this off-the-wall video is the cast of ‘The Muppets’ including my favorite, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker! Let’s face it. The Muppet Show may not be one of OK Go’s best music videos, but it difficult to not like this song. I’m fucking hooked.
