Thunder, Thunder, THUNDERCATS, HO!

Following sad news over the murder of Stephen Perry (who was the original writer of the 80’s cartoon), there is some great news coming out of Warner Bros. Warner Bros. Animation is currently on the fast track in producing a brand new ThunderCats animated series for Cartoon Network. What interesting will be the fact that WBA will be hookin’ up with Japanese animation studio, Studio4°C for the new series. Studio4°C is the studio that contributed to Animatrix, Batman Gotham Knights, and Halo Legends.

“We at Studio4°C are excited to be in this creative partnership with Warner Bros. Animation to bring ‘ThunderCats’ to life,” said Eiko Tanaka, President and CEO, Studio4°C. “This collaboration combines the strengths of our two companies – high production values and great storytelling – toward reintroducing this classic fan-favorite to a new audience.”

This is definitely going to be a new type of ThunderCats and most likely be a bit different from what we remember from our childhood. It may concern many that an “anime” version of ThunderCats may not be as good as the original, but if you are aware of the quality of animation coming out of Japan, you can bet that these ThunderCats will be kickin’ some major ass. I wonder when the SilverHawks will get their turn…

If you weren’t aware, I took a week off from iGT to get hitched to the love of my life, Mrs. Geektrooper, so be patient with me if some of these posts are dirt old. Canadian director, Patrick Boivin is well known on the web for his epic stop motion mini-films such as “Iron Man Versus Bruce Lee” and “Transformers Bumblebee Boy“. Well, this time around, Patrick tries something new and created an epic parody of director Jon Favreau’s Iron Man film. Dubbed “Iron Baby“, Patrick replaces Tony Stark with a little cute tyke that whips terrorist bunny ass in a Mark III Iron Man suit made for an infant. Patrick did an amazing job with big budget film quality production and CGI effects. It was so awesome that  even Jon Favreau had to plug “Iron Baby” on his Twitter. You will definitely fall in love with this little baby and you may wonder who she is. Her name is Marguerite Bulte Boivin, who is Patrick’s baby daughter. Yes. Iron Baby is a girl. Sooo kyoot!

Anyone that follows the news will know what is going on off the U.S. Gulf Coast. Due to a massive explosion on a British Petroleum controlled oil rig, over 210,000 gallons of oil (about 5000 barrels) is pouring in the ocean. BP has been an EPIC FAILURE on stopping the oil leak and the ocean and coral reef is suffering irreversable damage. Now, a hero has step forward to save the day. His name, actor and environmentalistKevin Fuckin’ Costner! Apparently, during Costner’s time making his big flop of a film, Waterworld, Costner invested millions and millions of dollars into developing a technology to turn sea water into drinkable purified water just like his character, the Mariner did in the movie. Well, apparently, Costner has many working prototypes that can seperate up to 98% of the crude oil from the sea water through a centrifuge-like process that he dubbed “Ocean Water Therapy”. His company that developed the technology is currently trying to convince BP and a board of engineers to put OWT into place and attempt to help clean up the mess.

It’s like a big vacuum cleaner,” explained one of Costner’s business partners. Costner, a longtime environmentalist, was glad that his invention would finally be deployed, but saddend at the occasion. “We’ve moved this to a technology that we know works, and has worked for a long time, Costner said, “It’s prepared to go out and solve problems, not talk about them.” He added: I just [am] really happy that the light of day has come to this, and I’m sad about why it is. But this is why it was developed, and like in anything that we face as a group, we all face it together.

When Waterworld came out and was deemed one of the biggest busts in box office history, we all laughed and mocked Costner for his failures and his careers has not really been the same since. If this technology actually works and helps clean up the ocean as promised, we are in for a HUGE “I told you so” from Costner and Waterworld. I hope it does work.

The New York Public Library is currently facing a huge $37 million budget shortage and to promote their “Don’t Close the Book” fundraising campaign, NYPL hooked up with Improv Everywhere, a NY based improv group that specializes in “scenes of chaos and joy in public places” (sounds like a group of misfits…). To promote public awareness of the library’s predicament, Improv Everywhere staged a homage to famous scene from Ghostbusters! Its also really cool that it took place in NYPL’s historic Rose Main Reading Room where the original Ghostbuster scene took place. Just like in the movie, four proton pack toting Ghostbusters invaded the library to chase out couple ghostly beings donning white sheets with a pair of holes punched through. With a really cool remix of the Ghostbuster theme song by Tyler Walker, playing in the back ground, the video is definitely funny as hell. Even the students and patrons of the library think so as well. Great job!
