I guess being small and green isn’t an easy life. Maybe that is the bond between ‘Muppets’ Kermit the Frog and Jedi master Yoda of ‘Star Wars’. Beautifully illustrated by Peter de Sèves, we find an unlikely pairing between the two green icons of pop culture and cinema. The weirdest part of this illustration has to be the uncanny resemblance between the two to each other. Perhaps, long lost Father and son? LMAO

Holy shit! Holy shit! Holy shit! Remember back in ‘97 when we all used to watch Disney’s cartoons after school and on Saturday mornings? Well, I do and I have fond memories tuning in for Disney’s ‘Recess’ (even though I was already in high school… /facepalm). Imagine my surprise when I find out that in one of the episodes a certain gentleman in a brown trench coat and dapper blue suit makes an appearance. Could this be the Tenth Doctor?! Did the TARDIS and the Doctor land at Third Street School to help T.J. and his crew? Probably not… but it’s nice to think that he did.

It’s Olivia Wilde. She is dear in my heart. I would watch pretty much anything and everything she is in. I loved her in ‘House M.D.’, ‘TRON: Legacy’, and I am pretty sure she will be awesome in Jon Favreau’s ‘Cowboys and Aliens’ as well. So until we see her again on the big screen, go ahead enjoy Olivia Wilde’s new spread in the June 2011 issue of GQ. She is quite stunning.

I have to admit that when I first came across Jay Hoff’s amazing ‘Star Wars’ LEGO diorama of Emperor Palpatine arriving in the Death Star, I kind of screamed and than teared up a bit. It is THAT beautiful! Jay created this amazing diorama using over 30,000 LEGO blocks and characters and was created for “Science Discovery Day” at Berkeley Preparatory School in Tampa, Florida. I’m not sure exactly what this diorama has to do with science or discovery, but I’m not complaining. I have to ask one thing though. Who’s going to close the hanger doors? I’m not sure if Darth Vader is going to be pleased to know that majority of his Imperial forces is floating out in space.

Yes, I do realize these were out in 2007, but I didn’t know about them and I figure why not post these on iGT. There must be others like myself who doesn’t know about these amazing ‘Star Wars’ steampunk art by Eric Poulton. Poulton may have been the first to put the steampunk spin on our favorite characters from Star Wars. Unlike Bjorn Hurri’s designs which was more animated, these have a much different feel and texture to it. Featured in black and white, Poulton’s steampunk Star Wars collection seems more like something you might see in a dream and much more Victorian-like (I hope that makes sense). One of my favorites from this collection has to be “Captain Ackbar” and “Massive Solar-Orbiting Electro-Mechanical Analytic Engine, Mark 6″. There is something about these illustrations that I find very whimsical and vibrant even though it lacks color. I think the black and white theme works in it’s advantage. Even though its over 5 years late, it still amazing to look at!

I rarely ever post about cosplayer, but when I do, I make sure it is some of the best I have ever seen. That is the case with this amazing cosplay of Reika Shimohira and Kei Kurono from ‘Gantz’. Gantz is a very popular manga by Hiroya Oku that was adapted into an anime back in 2004. One of the best things about Gantz has to be the ultra-cool costumes and weapons that are featured in the manga/series. The cool costumes and weapons is also one of the reasons that you don’t see many people cosplaying Gantz at conventions because the challenge of doing the costume and weapons correctly is very high. Well, that didn’t scare cosplay and geek celebrity Linda Le (@VampyBitMe) of VampyBit.me and famed illustrator and designer Long Vo (@vostalgic) from UDON Comics to show up at Katsucon 2011 in one of the best Gantz cosplays I have ever seen (this is counting Japan). Even though the design seems simple, you really have to look closer to enjoy all the little detail featured in the suits. From head to toe, there is a something to look at and admire. Along with the awesome costumes, the weapons are some of the best I have seen as well. Instead of the standard Nerf gun that is painted black or silver like most cosplayers, these customized cosplay guns with LED lights are top notch. It’s always a treat to see people cosplay characters that is fairly uncommon. It just makes them that much more special. It’s even better when they are at the level of these two.

batmancomplex

“themanbatman” must have had some time to think about this because I honestly had a hard time following after only a couple views. Titled, ‘The Batman Complex’, themanbatman took various clips from Tim Burton’s ‘Batman’, ‘Inception’, ‘The Dark Knight’, ‘The Machinist’, and more. The Batman Complex tackles the idea of whether Batman was only just a figment of Bruce Wayne’s imagination (I think I already said that… didn’t I… oh hell with it. It sounds good.)

The gist of the idea revolves around a few fun topics, mainly the whole “what is real?” train of thought, and also every fans desire, deep down or upfront, to be Batman at least once in their lives. And so, I tried to craft a story where we see what happens when someone takes their dream of being Batman a little bit too far. An idea, after all, is a truly resilient parasite.

While some of it is still left a bit ambiguous both unintentionally and intentionally – while there’s only so much that can be strung together – I often like to leave a little bit open so as to see what fellow fans are able to imagine/create. One aspect I tried to hint at was the paralleling descent of both Bruce and Cobb. As Cobb and the team go deeper into Bruce’s mind, they start to encounter the truly dark issues that his subconscious houses. As a result, Cobb himself gets caught up in the obsession of all that lingers in the mind of a Batman. There are a couple fun things in there that are best left to surprise, but all in all, I’m relatively happy with how it turned out. It’s fairly fast paced and doesn’t leave much room to breath, which helps amplify the tension I think. But that’s just me.

I swear. I was even more confused after reading themanbatman’s explaination of his concept for The Batman Complex. Regardless whether you “get it” or not, it still worth the watch. Especially, when a ton of work went into it by themanbatman (I wish I knew your name so I didn’t have to refer to you as “themanbatman).
