“themanbatman” must have had some time to think about this because I honestly had a hard time following after only a couple views. Titled, ‘The Batman Complex’, themanbatman took various clips from Tim Burton’s ‘Batman’, ‘Inception’, ‘The Dark Knight’, ‘The Machinist’, and more. The Batman Complex tackles the idea of whether Batman was only just a figment of Bruce Wayne’s imagination (I think I already said that… didn’t I… oh hell with it. It sounds good.)

The gist of the idea revolves around a few fun topics, mainly the whole “what is real?” train of thought, and also every fans desire, deep down or upfront, to be Batman at least once in their lives. And so, I tried to craft a story where we see what happens when someone takes their dream of being Batman a little bit too far. An idea, after all, is a truly resilient parasite.

While some of it is still left a bit ambiguous both unintentionally and intentionally – while there’s only so much that can be strung together – I often like to leave a little bit open so as to see what fellow fans are able to imagine/create. One aspect I tried to hint at was the paralleling descent of both Bruce and Cobb. As Cobb and the team go deeper into Bruce’s mind, they start to encounter the truly dark issues that his subconscious houses. As a result, Cobb himself gets caught up in the obsession of all that lingers in the mind of a Batman. There are a couple fun things in there that are best left to surprise, but all in all, I’m relatively happy with how it turned out. It’s fairly fast paced and doesn’t leave much room to breath, which helps amplify the tension I think. But that’s just me.

I swear. I was even more confused after reading themanbatman’s explaination of his concept for The Batman Complex. Regardless whether you “get it” or not, it still worth the watch. Especially, when a ton of work went into it by themanbatman (I wish I knew your name so I didn’t have to refer to you as “themanbatman).

With all the attention from ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’, the Red Skull is getting the attention it deserves. Marvel will be featuring a new five issue story titled “Red Skull Incarnate” which will tell the story of Johann Schmidt, who becomes the Third Reich’s very own “super soldier”, the Red Skull. New York Times best seller, Greg Pak and artist, Mirko Colak will be helming the comic, but the jewel of the series has to be five covers by Spanish comic artist, David Aja.

Due to the nature of the story, I wanted to portray the historical aspects on the covers,” said Aja. “In doing so, I approached the covers as if they were real posters, newspapers and Nazi propaganda from that time, kind of in a documentary style. To make it work, I utilized different typographic techniques for each issue, emulating different typefaces in real work; so I needed a uniform tone, technique and color in the finished art to identify all the covers as a whole collection.

I have to say that I always love Marvel’s variant covers, but these have to be some of the coolest in years. Aja’s awesome merger of World War II propaganda posters and Red Skull is brilliant and a must buy.

The first issue of ‘Red Skull Incarnate” is out July! Hit the jump and check out David Aja’s awesome Red Skull covers!

Well. Here we have it. A first complete look at Sentinel Prime from ‘Transformers: The Dark of the Moon’. I don’t know what it is, but Michael Bay is really attracted to making Transformers look really old. Considering the hot mess he created with The Fallen and Jetfire in ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’, you figure that Bay would abandon the whole wrinkly Tranformers idea for the third movie. I guess not considering Sentinel Prime is lookin’ pretty old himself. I do understand Bay is trying to show an age difference between all the Transformers, but come on man. They are all freakin’ old… AND THEY ARE MACHINES! I don’t know if I care anymore. I will watch it when it comes out because I love Transformers (not Michael Bay’s) and I already invested my life into the first two films. Let’s see if Bay will get it right on the third try. I’m putting my money on “no”.

I guess I was right. The best way to promote and sell ‘Mortal Kombat’ isn’t with violence and gore, but with half naked woman prancing around. Couple days ago, we featured a Mortal Kombat promotion video starring Playboy’s resident gamer and gadget geek and Cyber Girl of the Year 2008, Jo Garcia (@gamernextdoor) and UFC ring girl, Brittney Palmer. Well, I guess others had the same idea as the promotional team for Mortal Kombat decided to search for girls that wouldn’t mind cosplaying some of the ladies of Mortal Kombat and show a little skin.

First appearing at local Mortal Kombat tournament events across Europe this month, Cosplayers representing Sonya Blade, Kitana and Mileena will appear at the Mortal Kombat pan-European tournament final held at the The Gadget Show on Sunday April 17th at Birmingham’s NEC Centre, UK.

I guess it makes sense that sexy cosplay girls would be a big draw at a promotional event, but when I was a kid, I always remembered the coolest characters of Mortal Kombat to be Sub-Zero, Scorpion, and Raiden. Nowadays with guys hitting puberty and having the attention span of a potato chip, you need boobs to keep them interested. I don’t know. Maybe I’m just old. HA!

Samus of ‘Metroid’ has to be one of my favorite video game heroines of all time and growing up in Hawaii made me fond of the ukulele as well. So, when I ran into this awesome Samus ukuele by Tom Lay, my brain spun and landed in memory lane.

I sanded down my cheap(very cheap) ukulele, fixed a crack in the wall and give it a shiny new Metroid themed finish. The teeth on the Metroid shows the colour of the exposed wood (finished with a gloss). Didn’t change the tone of the uke.(surprisingly).

I do love the simplicity of the design and the well done incorporation of Samus’ head into the body of the ukulele. There is a lot of cool guitar and ukulele out in the world, but these one of a kind custom works of art can’t help but get you excited like when you were a little kid. Well done, Tom!

If you know anything about me, I am a HUGE fan of 2D artists. I think that beautiful pencil art is slowly losing the battle against digital art and I hold dear any artist that proves otherwise. Maybe that’s why the incredible art of Mike Henry AKA zatransis (@zatransis) of Big Menace Industries has me in awe and envy of his incredible talent. Hailing out of San Francisco, California, this professional 2D artist has worked in the video game, comic, and animation industry. His unique style of caricature-style art with beautiful use of vibrant and deep colors sets himself apart from the rest. The over-exaggerated facial features and embellished expressions oozes attitude and emotions from the drawing and gives it a life of it’s own. Everything from the Joker’s vicious grin, to Mr. Freeze’s cold stare, and the whimsical glimmer in Harley Quinn’s eyes are a testament to Mike Henry’s amazing attention to detail. While I have ranted over the years that Bruce Timm (@brucetimm) of ‘Batman and Superman Adventures’ fame is probably the best illustrator/animator to ever draw Batman, I would have to now say that Mike Henry has proven me wrong.

There is as much boob mashing as their is button mashing…

Yesterday, Warner Bros. Interactive released the long awaited ‘Mortal Kombat’ video game for Playstation 3 computer entertainment system and XBox 360. While the iconic fighting game, infamous for ultra-violence and gore doesn’t need to be promoted too much for people to get excited, Playboy’s resident gamer and gadget geek and Cyber Girl of the Year 2008, Jo Garcia (@gamernextdoor) (in purple) decided to put together a little Mortal Kombat promotional video together with the help of UFC ring girl, Brittney Palmer (in blue). Filmed in the UFC Gym in Rosemead, Calfornia, the lovely gals throws down and trains for a fist-a-cuff (or more like boobs-a-cuff) in… Mortal Kombat. I guess if Mortal Kombat is the “violence” in the equation, Jo and Brittney brings the “sex” in “sex and violence”. I’m not really surprised that a videos like this exists, considering nobody really complains about two half nekked girls touching each other, bending over, and jumping around, but I’m more surprised about the pairing of Playboy and Mortal Kombat more than anything else. I would have expected it from ‘Leisure Suit Larry’, but this cross promotion really caught me off guard. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed watching the promo, but I would have loved to know who this even came together (no pun intended). I apologize if it sounds crude, but what can I say… I’m a dude. /shrug
