starwarsicetray

This is such a simple idea yet I’m freaking out about it. Japanese figure designer/manufactuer, Kotobukiya is pretty well known around the world for their pretty awesome ‘Star Wars’ toys. Well, since last year, they have been getting into making stuff that isn’t statues or model kits such as the Star Wars lightsaber chopsticks from early last year. Well, I guess it was a huge hit because Kotobukiya will now make Star Wars silicon ice trays that will produce perfect mini ice sculptures of Han Solo in Carbonite and our favorite astrometric droid, R2-D2. Simple idea right? Well, than why hasn’t anyone made it before?! These ice trays are heat and cold resistant so you can be either on Mustafar or Hoth and you won’t need to worry about these getting damaged. It’s pretty cool considering you can fill and freeze almost anything you want. You can fill them with water to make ice for your glass of scotch or fill them with fruit punch to make mini popsicles for the little ones. You can put some melted chocolate into them and make a little Artoo chocolate that you can bite into. The possibilities are endless! Koto’s Star Wars ice trays will hit the streets in July (just in time for Summer) and will cost you less than 10 credits (when I say credits, I mean dollars) each!

I hope these are out by San Diego Comic Con. It would be pretty awesome to have for a party.

dcmimobots

I’m BATMAN… and I want to store your porn.

Oh goodie. Announced at New York Toy Fair 2011, mimoco will continue it’s partnership with DC Comics by releasing a new set of “mimobot” designer USB flash drives designed after “DC Classic” style Batman heroes and baddies. Available at two, four, eight, and 16GB flash drives, you will get your choice of classic Batman, Robin, The Joker, and Catwoman. The flash drives will cost around$20-60 pending on the storage size you get. These will be out at the end of the month and you can preorder yours at mimoco’s online store. If Batman is not your “cup of tea”, mimoco is planning mimobots for Superman, Green Lantern, and the Flash later this year. I hope Wonder Woman is part of that collection.

addict

I want! Back in 2008, Addict released a collection of ‘Star Wars’ tee designed by the infamous “Mitch“. Three years later (and much anticipation), they are back at it with the “Addict x Star Wars Icon Series 2″ collection. Unlike the first series, Icon Series 2 will be themed after ‘Empire Strikes Back’.  Mitch designed three amazing shirts this time. You have your pick between an AT-AT Pilot, Snowtrooper, and the very popular Boba Fett. Each design is available in black or white and just like the first series, it will be limited. Mitch is well know for is hand-drawn vector style and his use to colors. I am particularly a fan of his AT-AT Pilot. The use to gray and tan on the uniform with clean lines to show weathering makes this design quite awesome. It is a shame that there are only three designs available and we may or may not get to see more for another three years. If you are interested in these, you will have to buy them from Addict’s online shop. The problem is the currency is different (each shirt goes for £25.00), and you will most likely have to pay a higher shipping price because they are coming from the United Kingdom. Even with those little problems, the tees are definitely worth the money.

I do love good fan art. Los Angeles based graphic designer, Fernando Reza (@frodesignco) created two very rad fan-made movie posters for Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Dark Knight Rises’. Conceptual different from each other, but both are brilliantly executed. I especially love the “Breaking the Bat” version (right) as it features Batman in an x-ray with a broken back which is a great tie-in to the fact that Tom Hardy is signed on to play Bane. I also dig the cityscape and flying bats featured on “Dark Knight Rises” design. Both designs are dark and screams “Dark Knight”. If you really love these illustrations, Reza is offering these as 11×17” giclee prints. Each design is limited to 50 pieces and will set you back only 35 bucks.

Yay! A new ‘Doctor Who’ inspired tee! Illustrator, Mike Dimayuga of San Joaquin County, CA (@theothermiked) created this pretty awesome tee inspired the hideous baddies, “The Weeping Angels” from Doctor Who. Titled, “Don’t Blink”, the tee features a weeping angel with a fair warning on the bottom. I especially like the TARDIS included as the letter “i”. The “Don’t Blink” tee will be available at RIPT Apparel only for today (2/8/2011) at $10 each! I already ordered mine! You can check out Mike’s amazing work at his deviant art page!

Holy shit, this figure is awesome! Hong Kong based, figure designer/manufacturer, Hot Toys, is well known for their incredible action figures from movies such as ‘Iron Man’ and ‘The Dark Knight’. Well, Hot Toys (who is collaborating with Sideshow Collectibles) signed a huge licensing agreement with LucasArts to make 1:6 scale articulate action figures for Indiana Jones. I can honestly say that every Indy figure that came out in the past looks like shit. Other than the signature clothing, the facial sculpt was less than spectacular and it makes me cringe. This is not the case with Hot Toys x Sideshow Collectibles’ Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark: Indiana Jones Movie Masterpiece DX05 1:6 scale collectible action figure  This bad ass version of our favorite professor of archeology comes with an array of accessories such as his signature whip, brown fedora, and even a golden Fertility Idol statue! It even comes with Hot Toys’ “Parallel Eyeball Rolling System” which allows Indy’s eyes to adjust pending on his pose. I have collected about 80% of all of Hot Toys’ releases and this figure makes me giddy like a little school girl. It’s THAT freakin’ awesome. Indy will release in the summer and goes for about $250. Like most Hot Toys figures, this figure will go up in value. Hit the jump to check out more pix!

yoshimech

I love custom toys. Donald “KodyKoala” Kennedy created this pretty cool custom figure of a Yoshi mecha. Piloting the sucked is a miniature Yoshi as well! From the looks of it, Kennedy used two different scale Yoshi vinyl figures from Branpresto. Pretty awesome in my opinion. The best feature has to be the weathered tarnish paint job. Mario better watch how he rides Yoshi cause his mecha will stop his ass. I wonder if the fists shoot out like Mazinger. You can check out more pix at KodyKoala’s Flickr page.
