20091004phantom

Originally featured as an American adventure comic strop in 1939, Lee Falk’s, The Phantom as been reborn in different types of media such as a live action film, The Phantom (1996) staring Billy Zane and also an animation series called Phantom 2040. In 2010, The Phantom gets a reboot on SyFy as a miniseries. Actor Ryan Carnes (who you might remember as Dalek’s bitch-slave Laszlo in Doctor Who) as been cast as Kit Walker/The Phantom. Don’t expect the same gun toting Phantom that you remember from the past.  The story will take place in the city instead of the jungle and unlike the original, the new Phantom won’t be donning the signature purple and black spandex. Instead, he will be wearing a bull proof ski jump suit-like armor.  On top of that, unlike the original Phantom who relied on his natural god given physical strength, the new Phantom’s exoskeleton-like armor will enhance the user’s strength, speed, and agility. There is no word on whether the miniseries leads into a full television series (I guess it is pending on the ratings), but from the look of the preview, it might be actually good. They had a due decapitate another dued with a freakin’ katana for goodness sake! That’s an A++ in my opinion. I wonder if The Mantis is next…
