The Green Hornet finally found his Kato. First it was Stephen Chow (Shaolin Soccer) and then he left the project. Rumors had it that South Korean superstar, Kwon Sang-Woo was up for the role. Now Colombia Pictures has officially announced that Taiwanese singer/actor phenom, Jay Chou will play Kato which was originally played by the legendary Bruce Lee in the television show.

Heres the official press release from Colombia Pictures:

CULVER CITY, Calif., August 7, 2009 – After a worldwide search, Jay Chou, the multi-hyphenate singer-actor and a star throughout Asia, has joined the cast of Michel Gondry’s The Green Hornet in the iconic role of Kato, it was announced today by Doug Belgrad and Matt Tolmach, presidents of Columbia Pictures.

When questioned about his opportunity to play Kato, Chou said,“It’s an overwhelming experience to take on a role made famous by Bruce Lee. I won’t try to be Bruce Lee’s Kato – I will try to bring my own interpretation to the part. Of course, it’s a dream role, and I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

If his “own interpretation is anything close to this, count me out.

If you couldn’t tell, I’m not much of a fan of Jay Chou and I am pretty disappointed with the casting. I rather prefer the epic Donnie Yen.

Anyone watch ‘Ip Man’ yet? Its a semi-biographical film about Yip (Ip) Man, who was Bruce Lee’s sifu (master). It’s ridonkulous!

Yeah, I just don’t understand it either. They probably cast Jay Chou because he talks funny when speaking in English and it just makes Seth Rogen seem more appealing to women. This is really all about women. Every race wants to be the alpha and protect their women no matter the cost. What needs to happen is in order for the U.S. entertainment industry to finally realize they’re not being fair is that the Asian countries need to unite and try to have Europeans be the heroes in Asian films in Asian countries. This will make the American entertainment industry seem really bad.
