Korean superstar actor Kwon Sang-Woo may be just be what the ‘Green Hornet’ team has been looking for. While nothing has been officially announced or confirmed, it is certain that the Seth Rogan (star and writer), Evan Goldberg (co-writer) and Michel Gondry (director) have been searching for a new “Kato” after Chinese actor/director, Stephen Chow (of Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle fame) left the project.

Very little is known about Kwon Sang-Woo in the states, but he is one of the most sought after actors in South Korea. Consider him the equivalent of Brad Pitt in Asia. He has been in numerous hit dramas and films such as ‘Stairway to Heaven’ and ‘Once Upon a Time in High School’. You may also recognize him from a movie called ‘Volcano High’ that premiered in the United States on MTV. The original Korean version was great to watch, but MTV and horrible voice overs featuring rappers and hip-hop artists made the movie a huge joke. Thanks for nothing, MTV.

Regardless, Kwon Sang-Woo definitely has the acting chops and the martial arts skills 20090728katobruceleeto play a character that was made so famous by the legendary Bruce Lee.

It is pretty interesting the amount of Korean actors and actresses that have been given a chance to shine in big budget blockbuster movies.

South Koreans recently featured on the big screen have been actors such as John Cho (Korean-born American) who played Hikaru Sulu on ‘Star Trek’ (2009) and Rain (Native Korean pop icon, actor, etc.) who played Taejo Togokahn in the Wachowski Brother’s ‘Speed Racer’ and soon will play Raizo in the upcoming movie, ‘Ninja Assassin’ which was written by the brilliant J. Michael Straczynski (BTW, Ninja Assassin is getting crazy reviews after the screening at SDCC). Also, don’t forget about Byung-Hun Lee (Native Korean actor superstar) who will be playing Storm Shadow opposite Ray Park’s Snake Eyes in ‘G.I. Joe: The Rise of a Crappy Movie Cobra’.

It is quite nice to see South Koreans cast in these films that were usually reserved for Chinese martial arts actors such as Jet Li or Jackie Chan. As a fellow Korean-born American myself, it is a thrill to see more South Koreans on the big screen.

I just wish that their english were a bit better.

BTW.. for the ladies… (Every damn site was featuring this picture. I mind as well too.)
